“M193” is the name of the United States Armed Forces’ basic 5.56 ammo for training and field use. Federal puts an “X” in front of the designation to evince that it was made for civilians (as opposed to the gov).
True to M193 form, this cartridge is loaded with a 55 grain full metal jacket. The “BT” refers to the FMJ’s boat tail: a sloping base, which decreases drag in much the same way as a ship’s tapered stern. It helps the bullet streak through the air faster, and hold on to more of that speed over longer distances.
This is *not* M855 ammo, mind you. Its bullets do not contain steel.
American Eagle series ammo is exclusively loaded with virgin reloadable brass cases. These particular cartridges’ cases are darker around their necks. That means they were heat treated correctly, and nothing else.
