Not all Federal Premium ammunition comes from Minnesota. Sometimes it is made for Federal by the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) of Independence, Missouri.

If you figure the U.S. government’s largest ammo factory makes a lot of 5.56x45 ammunition, then you are correct. Here is a scintilla of that ammo: M193, packaged loose together in one big cardboard box.

This is technically “X”M193, but only because it was made specifically for commercial sale. True to spec, it is loaded with a 55 grain full metal jacket projectile; nonmagnetic for range rules compliance, and boat tail for improved aerodynamic efficiency.

LCAAP brass is brand new and reloadable. It is very clearly annealed (a heat-treatment process which removes internal stresses that could lead to malfunction), as it was not polished afterward. The only downside (if you want to call it that) to military-grade brass such as this ammo’s is its poorer cosmetics.
