Winchester’s USA white box ammunition is the gold standard for high-volume target shooting. If you’ve got an AR-15 (or any other rifle, carbine or pistol) chambered for 5.56x45mm, then this case of ammo is all you need to get out there and really give bullseyes the what for. This is M193 spec ammo, which essentially means it’s the most basic kind of 5.56 you could select for target practice. Each round fires a 55 grain full metal jacket projectile. It’s a nonmagnetic bullet: steel-free, with a lead core and brass jacket that cannot deliver terminal expansion (although the bullet would fragment apart if it were to strike a soft medium at high enough velocity). The jacket’s cannelure only serves to keep the bullet from getting pulled out of its seating under the force of recoil.

These rounds’ brass cases were heat-treated (i.e. “annealed”) at the factory. Annealing makes brass more supple, which promotes surer performance in a semi-automatic firearm. It also cosmetically discolors the brass. We only bring this up because Winchester did not polish this ammo’s BRAND NEW and RELOADABLE cases after annealing them.
