Winchester’s Ranger line of ammunition is made for law enforcement officers. That makes this 9mm NATO ammo one of the highest-quality picks for target practice at your disposal – even if you *aren’t* a cop. That’s right! Although it’s harder to find for sale than Winchester’s commercial lines, Ranger 9mm NATO is available to the general public!
What does “NATO” indicate? Only that this ammunition is loaded in accordance with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s own specifications, which primarily has to do with chamber pressure. Standard 9mm is loaded to a maximum average pressure (MAP) of 35,000 psi. Overpressure (+P) 9mm is loaded to a MAP of 38,500 psi. And 9mm NATO? It falls almost squarely in the middle of those two specs at 36,500 psi. That has two important implications for performance:
1. This ammo recoils harder than standard 9mm, but dishes out a flatter trajectory as a reward.
2. This ammo is more powerful than standard 9mm, albeit weaker than the more conventional +P alternative. Even so, it is advisable to only fire 9mm NATO ammo in a firearm that is rated to safely fire +P.
Outside of its NATO specs, this ammo is pretty much what you ought to expect of normal range loads. Its 124 grain full metal jacket does not deliver positive expansion. It can neutralize a threat, although it is not marketed for that purpose. By forgoing expansion, the bullet is less likely to inflict as much trauma to the threat as a JHP would have, and also *more* likely to pass through said threat (at which instant it poses a higher risk of collateral injury). Like its virgin brass case, the FMJ is utterly and completely steel-free. Fire away at a gun range that bans magnetic ammo. None of the staff will have a problem with that!
This ammunition is packaged in 50-round boxes; 20 boxes per case.
