This is not some dusty old surplus that we dug out of a storage facility in Kuwait. As a matter of fact, Winchester did not even manufacture this ammunition for the U.S. military. It was created recently, and specifically for the commercial market. Winchester does manage the U.S. government’s largest ammo factory, however, which we believe entitles them to call a 12 Gauge shell “military grade.”

This shotshell is a tried-and-true solution to personal protection, although it could also be of great use while you’re hunting predators or medium game. The shell is charged up with nine pieces of 00 buck: each approximately 54 grains in weight, and accordingly able to strike close range with ~200 ft lbs of energy. That’s a little more powerful than the average 32 Auto bullet – just multiplied ninefold.

Two features help this shell pattern its shot efficiently: hard lead shot, and granulated buffering material. The wad is a conventional felt disc. This ammo is double protected against moisture by its sealed crimps and anodized steel caps. It’s also loaded with OD green hulls, as it rightly should be in light of its “Military Grade” label.
