All-purpose buckshot ammunition, fine-tuned for seamless operation in most semi-automatic shotguns. That’s what Winchester set out to design. That’s precisely what they delivered when they rolled out AUTOBUCK in 2026.

It’s simple physics. This shotshell’s shot column weighs 1-1/8 ounces. Its powder charge pushes that payload to a velocity of 1,325 feet per second. By those two factors combined, the shell dependably attains the 3-1/2 dram equivalent that properly cycles most manufacturers’ semi-autos.

At .30” pellet diameter, #1 buckshot is frequently favored over 00 buck (.33”) for home defense, hunting in dense vegetation, and hunting over shorter distances. Although each individual pellet strikes with less force than the conventional and weightier alternative, its small size permits a higher pellet count: 12 pieces, in this instance, as opposed to the normal eight or nine for 00 buck. A #1 buck pellet also hits ~75% as hard as a double-aught, which decreases its likelihood of penetrating clean through the target as a result.
