A unique upgrade for the AK
First off, I purchased the key-mod version, but the design is identical. This fit nicely on my WASR 10/63. I had to tap the handguard a bit to get it to seat into the receiver, but after that it was quite easy. There are a pair of screws that press the collar of the Troy handguard to the locking retainer plate for the original handguard, creating an extremely secure hold. They are a bit tricky to get locked in, as the instructions merely say to tighten them, not exactly how. I found the easiest way was to get them threaded so they were already pushing the collar 1/8" toward the muzzle end before installing the handguard. After locking the handguard retainer clamp, I used the key-mod holes with the ball'n'joint end of the supplied allen wrench to tighten the screws into place, so with the M-LOK it should be even easier. This handguard gives the AK platform a very different, much slimmer, profile, and IMHO a much needed one. Though I have yet to get it to the range with the new furniture, it really feels like I can drive this gun onto target a lot faster and smoother than with the standard length handguard. The weight is nothing too drastic, at around 13 ounces, its distributed well over the front of the gun, so it never feels like its out of control when sweeping from target to target.
