I always test a new auto
I always test a new auto pistol to make sure it can cycle unfired rounds. Using these snap caps is the safest way to do that, as cycling live rounds is not only dangerous but can batter or shorten your ammo. Using this product, I found out that a new 45 auto needed a port job and extractor tuning, as it would jam when clearing a snap cap. The nose of the snap cap was hitting the port wall and knocking the round off the extractor. This would happen with a live round too. These snap caps helped me during this gunsmithing task since it required frequent testing, and now the pistol now cycles entire mags full of snap caps without a glitch, tossing the snap caps well clear. This brand (in 45 ACP) has a properly sized brass rim that makes it good for checking extractor tension and the brass holds up better than the aluminum rims on some other brands. I don't use these as much for dry firing, but the spring loaded brass 'primer' will prevent firing pin damage. These are also good for testing feeding reliability and for practicing racking the slide for empty chamber carry. The red plastic makes it easy to identify it as a 'safe' round.
