SOGfari 18" Machete -
Machetes are one of the more useful edged tools in the world. They have cleared brush, and blazed trails, have chopped wood, made shelters, harvested crops, prepared meals, hunted and protected. Careful attention has been given to the SOGfari to make sure that the weight was right and the handles were comfortable for extended use. Whip them through the air and hear them sing. SOG has added a real working saw on the back of the blades with teeth that cut deep. Extended out of the back of the handle is a spiked tang for pounding and scraping. There are even holes in the handle to mount lanyards.

Machete -
A large heavy knife with a broad blade, used as a weapon and an implement for cutting vegetation.

Saw -
A tool that uses a hard blade or wire with an abrasive edge to cut through softer materials.

Kraton Rubber -
Trade name given to a number of high performance elastomers manufactured by Kraton Polymers, and used as synthetic replacements for rubber.

Everything in the descrip
Everything in the description held true. Good brand name. Used in the woods once and worked great. Came in the case sharp and ready to go. This machete was recently stolen from me and I like it enough to get it again.

I was impressed when I op
I was impressed when I opened the box. It's a good looking Machete. With the name SOG, I expected the thing to be very durable like all other SOG items I have owned. I noticed the blade was thinner than I expected. Even my el cheapo machete has a blade almost twice as thick as the SOG. The SOG blade flexed quite a bit when I first used it cutting underbrush on a deer food plot area this past Saturday. Matter of fact it flexed so much , it had a tendency to kick out of the woody undergrowth upon impact. That could cause personal injury if one is not wary of the flexing. My old heavier bladed machete being stiffer does not act that way. On the first morning of use, the blade broke clean in two. Not due to bending of the blade nor trying to free it from being stuck in wood. Nothing like that. When it broke I was cutting a 2 inch dia. softwood sapling, the first 45 degree cut on the vertical sapling, the blade broke from the saw tooth back to the sharpened edge, clean as a whistle, through and through. The break is approx. 3 inches from the handle. It gave way at the very first saw tooth, probably a weak spot from the overly agressive/ deep sawtooth design. I will be sending it back.
