The “First Military Ammunition Factory” was founded in Polička, Czechoslovakia in 1920. It was tasked with producing grenades, artillery ammo, and other important tools for cementing the country’s strategic independence. Czechoslovakia has since phased out of existence, but the company lives on as Poličské strojírny a.s. (an STV Group holding).

This is STV’s Scorpio label ammunition: essentially 5.56 NATO M193 in .223 Remington form, and loaded to C.I.P specifications that ought to get along swimmingly with any American’s 5.56 or .223 rifle.

This cartridge’s bullet is made of four metals: lead and tin in the core, and copper and zinc in the jacket. That makes it a *nonmagnetic* full metal jacket. Its 55 grain weight produces a totally ordinary 3,248 fps muzzle velocity, with accompanying accuracy that can print ~2-3/4” groups at 109 yards (per the manufacturer’s claim).

This is new ammo. Old military surplus wouldn’t have colorful packaging (50 boxes per case), and it probably wouldn’t have this ammo’s noncorrosive Boxer primers, either. STV makes fresh, reloadable brass for all of their ammo, including this.
