Remington Subsonic Rimfire ammunition is loaded to a muzzle velocity ~75 fps lower than the speed of sound. Simple physics means there is no sonic boom, which is optimal for suppressor performance (as well as noticeably quieter in conjunction with non-suppressed firearms). So too is the bullet’s copper plating, which reduces fouling of suppressor baffles and ports.

This round’s 40 grain hollow point is similarly optimized for low-velocity performance. Should a varmint mark the terminal of its slow-moving trajectory, the HP will react by undergoing rapid expansion.
