Show a little love to grandpa’s war trophy! Order some 7.7x58mm Arisaka (aka 7.7 Japanese) hunting ammunition for it!

Don’t worry: this isn’t billion-year-old Imperial Japanese Army surplus ammo. It was recently manufactured in Sweden by Norma, an ammo-making giant, and is fit for action in any antique provided said antique is in good working condition.

The 7.7 Japanese was conventionally loaded with 10-13 gram projectiles. That’s only to say that this round’s 174 grain (11.275 gram) bullet weighs normal. It’s a soft point, with a flat base and tapered copper jacket to promote better accuracy and wider expansion, respectively. It’s not the deepest penetrating bullet the 7.7 Japanese could conceivably be loaded with, but it’ll hold its own against any deer.

Norma assigns the bullet a G1 ballistic coefficient of .262. We estimate its 200-yard striking energy to be 1,375 ft lbs; 300 yards, 1,014 ft lbs.
