It's a beast
For home security mini shells are perfect. They have way less recoil and using bird shot or numerous bb shot is best for inside. The spread is true and better chance at hitting any perp. The Shotgun comes packed in shipping grease but needs thoroughly wiped down and cleaned then re oiled properly. Also be aware the action upon racking a shell into battery is rather tough when new and needs breaking in with oil and a few shots fired. Like an engine the parts break in the more you use it. It kicks like no other. NOT good for people with limp wrists or hands. Arthritic hands beware as this shotgun will hurt you. I know by my own experience so putting a buttstock on it with a buffer tube will improve it dramatically. Use mini shells for less recoil. Pros: 8 rounds of 2&3/4" fit tight but good capacity Cons: Can kick back and bite you if not held firmly

Mossberg is a good gun for the money. Not my 1st choice!
People who buy this had better buy about 5000 rounds of ammo and practice a lot. I put a stock on my 500s, 590s, 1100s, 1200s, 13s, 1300s, 870s etc. when I buy them at police auctions, and they have pistol grip on them. The pistol grip looks cool, but if I have a stock, I can hit my target spot on, REALLY REALLY FAST! The pistol grip is kind of a joke, unless you have spent a lot of time getting good at shooting from the hip. Aside from that, if you want a gun to practice hip shooting with, this is okay, and they do sell stocks, and folding stocks for these. They everything for Mossberg 500s & 590s! I do keep ONE or TWO pistol grip 12 gauges, but the grips are hand made from burl root. They are shaped with a ball behind or under the grip so there is something to stabilize with my hip, that won't hurt when I shoot. I usually throw the plastic pistol grips away. Given a choice, I will always go with a shoulder stock, unless I am riding in a car, or a truck, and I prefer folding stock, if I am! Pros: Add ons, & goodies are plentiful for the 590. Cons: A bad idea for indoor use! Hard to aim well!
