Very nice item, BUT not iron sight friendly
First off, CTD is great, they responded to my question immediately and quickly obtained an answer from the manufacturer. Ok, this is a very nice rail, fits perfect, looks great. If you only use optics and not iron sights, no problems. I wanted a picatinny rail on my 10/22 to use my thermal at night and yet maintain use of my original iron sights in daylight, so I asked a question, and was told per the manufacturer, yes I could still use iron sights. (See the questions section for this item.) Got the rail, set it on the receiver, and could just BARELY see the groove in my rear sight, as in the rail channel is basically on the same plane as the rear sight. It was difficult to discern between the rail and sight, especially in low light. For me this is unacceptable, but I suppose could work for someone else, maybe. Out of curiosity, I also set it on my second 10/22 with factory fiber optic sights, and that is a hard no-go, not even close to working as those sights sit even lower and the rear sight fiber pipes have a wider stance. I decided to keep the rail and “make” it work. I used a dremel tool and the edge of a flat file to make the groove deeper and more square instead of a U. The screw heads were countersunk plenty deep, so I could remove material enough and still keep screw heads hidden. I then simply painted the bare aluminum with flat black enamel paint. Can’t say for sure how much material I removed, I didn’t measure, but now I can see the rear sight clearly. I wish someone had written a review like this before, I probably would have looked for a different rail. I cannot advise anyone to modify a rail as I did, I cannot yet testify to the durability and strength of the rail after modification. I don’t see a problem, still looks strong to me, but only time will tell. If it fails, I’ll be looking for a different rail, no one to blame. In the meantime, I hope this helps someone in the same boat I was in. Don’t know if the manufacturer had different sights in mind or not when they said it worked, but three stars for not truly working with original Ruger sights, I feel they could do better. Sorry this got so long, details are important to me. Thank you.

Can you tell me if the U-groove in this rail has enough clearance to allow for the use of factory 10/22 iron sights when an optic is not in use? Thank you!
