Generally speaking, an 8.6 Blackout cartridge becomes subsonic when its bullet weighs 270 grains or heavier. This round’s 300 grain bullet certainly qualifies. Its triple-digit muzzle velocity poses no risk of rupturing the sound barrier, and therefore cannot be better suited for suppressor use.

That bullet’s not just massive. It’s a MatchKing, which is immensely popular on the competitive shooting scene for its uniformity, balance, and sleekness. Sierra reports the 300 grain .338 caliber hollow point boat tail’s G7 BC at 0.383 G7. Not good for ranges past 300 yards, but laser accurate within that distance! (Optimal rate of twist: 1x10” or faster.)
