Hornady’s V-Match series ammunition is *so accurate* that you may just decide to fire it for its accuracy alone! But if you happen to take aim at a varmint, then you’ll truly be able to see everything the ELD-VT bullet offers.
The ELD-VT is designed to essentially explode starting at the instant following impact, just like its predecessor the V-MAX. When this bullet’s hard polymer tip gets forced backward, it travels across a long air gap as it blows the surrounding thin jacket to smithereens before finally colliding with the dense lead core. You’ll be able to see big results, even if you’re shooting from very far away!
The ELD-VT shares the V-MAX’s concentric Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket. Like most V-MAX bullets, it also has a boat tail. What’s most special about it is its Heat Shield tip, which will not become deformed under the stress of aerodynamic heating, and which has an insanely low-drag Drag Variability Reduction Technology flat meplat design. Peak drag uniformity; minimal dispersion!
This round’s 62 grain bullet is light – precisely what you want a varmint bullet to be, because that’s what gives you the flattest trajectory. The .224 Valkyrie can obviously have a higher G1 ballistic coefficient than .395, but we feel that’s quite respectable for so light a bullet. If your rifle’s barrel is 24” long (i.e. the same length as Hornady’s), then you can expect a trajectory that looks *roughly* like this: 0yds: -1.5” → 100yds: 1.1” → 200yds: -0.0” → 300yds: -5.6” → 400yds: -16.4” → 500yds: -33.6”.
