It’d be foolish to use Hornady Superformance Match 5.56x45mm ammo on close-range targets. Don’t get us wrong – you’re perfectly welcome to order these premium, Nebraska-made match loads if you’re just practicing your mag dumps in your backyard. But if you really want to witness this ammo’s true potential, you’re going to have to aim several hundreds away.

This cartridge is loaded with Hornady’s own 75 grain boat tail hollow point Match projectile. It’s heavy, and holds on to superior momentum as a result. It’s also perfectly balanced, and extremely aerodynamically efficient, and therefore able to conserve the bullet’s momentum even more effectively. It all pays off, because the bullet’s 2,910 fps muzzle velocity (20” barrel) precedes an almost *stupidly* high G1 BC of .395. Velocity retention of 63.6% at 500 yards is outrageously good for a .22 cal bullet!

Hornady’s Superformance Match series ammo is advertised to attain muzzle velocities up to 200 fps higher than other analogous loads with the same bullet weight. Despite that, you shouldn’t expect extra recoil, muzzle blast, temperature sensitivity, or any of the other unwanted side effects of amplified muzzle velocity.
