Selecting the best tool for home defense takes careful consideration of many factors. After giving it proper thought, you have selected a 300 AAC Blackout SBR outfitted with a suppressor. We would venture to say you have chosen wisely.

Hornady Subsonic ammunition is the ideal complement to any home defense AR, and it would also serve a hunter well. True to form, this round’s 190 grain projectile does not break the sound barrier. Hornady recorded its 1,050 fps muzzle velocity with a 16” test barrel. If your SBR’s barrel is much shorter than that, then you might be looking at velocities as low as a 45 Auto’s.

The Sub-X projectile ends in a flat nose that would have inflicted plenty of damage on its own. But because the Sub-X features an aggressively grooved jacket, supple Flex Tip polymer insert, and hollow point nose cavity, it’s able to deliver terminal expansion following surprisingly low impact velocities.

This ammo’s reduced flash propellant is a thoughtful touch. Dimmer muzzle flash will help prevent you from becoming temporarily blinded while firing at night. 200 Round Case

Also what setup would be most quiet.
Answer: Hello there! That would be a lot of distance to cover with a subsonic 300 BLK load. I think 150-200 yards max is more reasonable, partly because striking energy would only be around 350 ft lbs at 300 yards. The Sub-X is designed to undergo expansion at velocities as low as 900 fps, however, and Hornady claims the bullet's still 918 fps at 300 yards (16" test barrel), so there is that, but it's still farther than you'd want to take it for whitetail. I can't promise which setup you'd have the greatest success with, beyond one with a suppressor (which kind of goes without saying).
