Traditional lead-core bullets aren’t an option for some hunters. But even if you aren’t obligated to forego lead where you hunt, you’ll still find plenty to favor about the Hornady CX.
This 7mm Winchester Short Magnum cartridge’s bullet weighs 150 grains: not a single one of them lead. It’s constructed entirely out of copper alloy (with the exception of its polymer tip), and therefore exceptionally clean-shooting. In addition to conserving a rifle’s accuracy, the CX preserves the quarry’s meat from lead contamination. And because copper’s ductility is far superior to that of lead, the CX reliably conserves 95% or more of its weight as it tunnels a deep wound column into the quarry.
The CX’s Heat Shield polymer tip does more than trigger expansion. It also features a one-of-a-kind DVRT flat meplat, which simultaneously boosts drag uniformity and decreases dispersion, and is furthermore made of polymer that is immune to deformation resulting from aerodynamic heating. Alongside its virtually perfect balance and optimum groove technology, the Heat Shield gives the CX an admirably high .455 G1 BC out of Hornady’s own 24” test barrel.
