Hornady Black Poweder Muzzleloading projectiles are ideal for either a day at the range or a day in the field with your favorite muzzleloader. These round balls are cold swaged from pure lead which eliminates air pockets and voids common to cast balls. Hornady lead round balls are smoother and rounder which assures better rotation and consistency. Hornady's rigorous inspection process ensures that you will receive consistent and uniform round balls meeting both weight and concentricity tolerances.

Good for small increment weight increases in weightlifting.
Good for my 'Sticking Point Smashers' to add as little as 1/3oz to each side of the bar at a time.

I will only order these
This product came in a solid little box that can be reused. When I opened it I was pleased to see that the balls were packed in a sturdy little plastic bag which was sealed up tightly. I opened the bag and inspected the ammunition and found that the balls were very uniform in size, weight and shape. Not a single deformity found. They are swedged from a very nice, soft lead and had no seam marks or voids. Clearly they had been polished, most likely tumbled. It was very apparent to me that they were inspected/graded individually, I'm sure by some mechanical means, but due to the absolute lack of any deformity I can only imagine that a person puts eyes and hands on the batch to inspect it further. They load perfectly and shoot as clean as any lead ball in front of powder can. I load 26.6 grains with 13.3 grains cornmeal and then 5 grains 1:3 crisp/beeswax "grease" under the ball. UNDER the ball, not on top of the ball, and this ammunition give me as dependable results as can be given. When these balls hit a soft foam under plastic mannequin target they deform beautifully and penetrate very well, passing through the mannequin head completely and with only enough spare energy to enter a milk jug where they come to rest after bumping the other side. From my calculations and bone/meat tests, this load, at 10 yards, would pass through and through a human skull without enough energy to penetrate into another person. From a hunting standpoint, from my tests, the round passes through a deer skull (135lbs buck / 165lbs doe) from the side and front (eye area) and falls harmlessly to the ground after 5-9 feet of free travel. Entrance wound is not much to see due to flesh and fur. Exit wound, on average, is comparable to a 9mm jhp at .764 inches. They soft lead means great deformation but also means that they is generally much shedding of mass. "Fragmentation" is very common as the round passes through. Deformation and fragmentation equates to transfer of the round's energy. Pros: Materials Cons: So really no cons
