CX. DGX. A‑MAX. ELD-X. Hornady is responsible for introducing more high-tech rifle bullets to the market than we can count off the top of our head. But does that mean the Nebraskan company is above loading the humble FMJ? Not at all! And they introduced their Frontier label just to prove it.

This is M193 spec ammunition: the closest thing to bread and butter any 5.56x45 rifle can eat. Each round is topped with a 55 grain *steel-free/nonmagnetic* full metal jacket: the simplest kind of bullet any 5.56x45 rifle can fire. The bullet’s .243 G1 ballistic coefficient is absolutely average for its weight, style and caliber, and promises ~48% velocity retention at 500 yards. (Hornady recorded the 3,240 fps MV with a 20” barrel.)

This ammo’s cases bear Hornady’s own headstamp. They are annealed (i.e. heat treated), as evinced by their discolored shoulders and necks. To be sure, Frontier brass is brand new and reloadable. Its discoloration is cosmetic only.

No bulk packaging here! This case of ammunition is divided across 25 individual boxes.
