When most people think of Hornady, they think of intricately engineered match and hunting bullets. The Nebraskan company certainly has earned that connotation over the years. But did you know that Hornady also pumps out much simpler ammunition? The sort of stuff you can fire all day without facing a stiff financial penalty, that is?
It’s true. And you’re looking at proof: Hornady Frontier 5.56x45 ammunition, which is loaded to the same M193 specifications that the U.S. military standardized for their M16 rifle’s ammo back in the ‘60s.
This isn’t old milsurp that the Army never found a use for, though. It’s recently made, with noncorrosive Boxer primers and new brass cases. See how the cases’ shoulders are darker in coloration? That’s proof that their mouths were annealed (i.e. heat treated to reduce hardness and internal stresses). It just means that the reloadable cases were made the right way; not that they are remanufactured.
The 55 grain full metal jacket boat tail is your best friend for target shooting over all but the longest distances. The *nonmagnetic* projectile is comprised of a lead core and copper-alloy jacket, has a sloped base for increased balance and reduced drag, and is backed by the propellant it needs to clear a 20” barrel at 3,240 fps muzzle velocity.
This is loose-packed ammunition. All 1,000 rounds are contained within one plastic bag inside a cardboard box.
