Hornady is well known for being one of America’s preeminent bullet designers and ammunition manufacturers. Their hunting ammo is deadly, and their match ammo could knock the fleas off a shrew’s hide. But the Nebraskan company isn’t content to only load fancy stuff – hence their Frontier label, which is applied to trusty-yet-simple range loads!
No polymer tip. No Interlock ring. No Drag Variability Reduction Technology. Look closely at this round’s 55 grain bullet and you will see it is nothing more than a full metal jacket: lead core, copper-alloy shell, no steel, and all you need for pulverizing gongs, cardboard or paper.
These cartridges originated at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, where they received the government manufacturer's usual new brass and noncorrosive primers. Hornady packaged them 200 rounds per plastic field box. It’s not a Mil-Spec ammo can that you could confidently submerge in water or run a truck over, but it stores ammo well and keeps it organized out in the field all the same.
