This is 380 ACP (i.e. 380 Auto) ammunition, loaded with bullets that are perfectly average in weight at 90 grains. Hornady captured the round’s even 1,000 fps muzzle velocity with a 4” test barrel; 166 ft lbs striking energy at 50 yards.

The Flex Tip eXpanding (FTX) is an unusual example of a polymer-tipped handgun bullet. A cylindrical red polymer insert fills the jacketed hollow point bullet’s nose cavity. This keeps fabric from clogging the nose cavity, which helps prevent failure of terminal expansion.

This ammo is loaded with low-flash propellant. It’s a feature intended to conserve the shooter’s night vision in low-light environments (and therefore of no advantage in daylight). Hornady *used* to load this ammo with nickel-plated brass cases. At the time of writing, the Nebraskan manufacturer has switched over to unplated (yet still high-quality) bare brass cases.
