Looking for the perfect defensive ammo for your 7.62x39mm short-barrel rifle (SBR)? Then you probably couldn’t find better ammunition than Hornady BLACK. But make no mistake: If you’re looking for a dependable, American-made solution to defense or hunting with *any* 7.62x39 rifle, then you have just found the cream of the crop.

This round features the MonoFlex SBR projectile: lightweight at 111 grains because it does not contain any dense lead. The monolithic (i.e. all copper) MonoFlex SBR is acceptable for use in jurisdictions that prohibit lead bullets for hunting. It is also built to inflict a long wound column, as tough copper resists fragmenting apart and losing momentum during impact and subsequent penetration. And because the MonoFlex SBR’s hollow point nose cavity is shielded by a Flex Tip, it easily delivers terminal expansion following relatively low impact velocities.

Hornady subjected this round’s bullet to the FBI test protocol. When fired from a SIG MCX with a 6.75” long 1:5” twist barrel, the 111gr MonoFlex SBR penetrates bare ballistic gelatin to a depth of 14” and expands to a diameter of .73”.
