I first tried Hoppes #9 a
I first tried Hoppes #9 a couple years ago, and it's become a staple of my cleaning kit since. I shoot a lot of old surplus rifles with old surplus ammunition, and that can lead to big buildup. Break-Free works great with my newer firearms that shoot cleaner ammo, but I needed something tougher to scrub out the bores of my dirtier rifles, and #9 gets the job done in half the time that CLP does. The downside is that this solvent has the consistency of water, and can get a bit messy, so if you have wood furniture and don't want it soaking up solvents, make sure to keep a rag handy. Finally, these 2oz bottles are glass, while the larger 4oz bottles are plastic; I've bought both sizes, the glass bottles are WAY easier and more convenient to use, and don't tend to build up a slimey, dirty film on the outside like the plastic bottles do.
