The adapter nut is required to install a Hogue forend on a Mossberg 500A/835 12 Gauge shotgun. It can be also used with any Mossberg forend tube which measure 6.75" long. If you have the standard length tube of 7.75" tube this adapter is not needed.

If you own a 500a mossberg with the 6 3/4 slide and want to upgrade your forend this is the only way unless your really good with a saw and dremel, and have a lot of time on your hands

This is for Mossberg 12 Gauge Shotguns with a slide action tube which measures 6.75" long, if your action tube is not at that specified length, you would need to replace the forend assembly entirely

Sometimes sporting shotguns made after 2006 with synthetic forearms may not use an action slide tube at all; rather, the pump handle will have two integral bars pinned into the handle itself. If you have one of these, you cannot use a forearm that was designed to go over an action slide tube without first buying the correct length tube and action slide tube nut. If you do have an action tube however, you would measure from top of the threads to bottom of the collar that holds the action bars.
