This may go without saying, but *every* 360 Buckhammer cartridge is designed to go into a lever-action rifle. That didn’t stop Federal Premium and Henry Repeating Arms from sitting down together, taking a good look at the round, and asking themselves how they could truly optimize its performance in the lever action platform.
This HammerDown hunting cartridge is their answer to their question. Each round’s case geometry, chamfering, and nickel plating is there to promote flawless cycling. Its bullet bears a flat meplat, of course, but is also further designed to deliver the lethalest possible terminal ballistics a lever gun is capable of.
More specifically, that bullet is a 220 grain soft point. Its flat nose transfers decent energy on impact, and proceeds to make things deadlier by flattening our even further. The SP’s jacket doesn’t pose any resistance to wide expansion. It only makes it more effective, because it is molecularly bonded to ensure enormous weight retention.
Federal reports .263 G1 BC for this cartridge. That figure’s bearing on striking energy is detailed below. Here is our estimated short-range trajectory: 0yds: -1.5” → 50yds: 0.5” → 100yds: 0.0” → 150yds: -3.5” → 200yds: -10.3”.
