HammerDown ammo is loaded with true bonded jacketed hollow point bullets (not unlike the ones loaded in Speer Gold Dot). The 127 grain JHP’s tough lead core and copper jacket are electrochemically fused to one another, which prevents (or at the very least greatly curtails) fragmentation that could have resulted in shallow penetration. The JHP is also optimized to expand at the higher velocities produced by a long gun’s barrel.

Henry advised Federal to load this ammo with specially chamfered cases to facilitate feeding, as well as bullets with profiles that are optimized for the smoothest possible performance inside lever guns. Federal recorded the following ballistic data using a test barrel of unspecified length:
