Some 5.56x45mm ammunition is packaged very nicely: in colorful boxes, with plastic dividers to neatly line up the rounds.
Other 5.56x45mm ammunition is packaged more economically. Take this neat little 200-round parcel of “the goods” by Federal Premium, for example. Its box won’t win any graphic design awards, but it *does* contain its contents. What more could you ask for?
This ammunition is loaded with full metal jacket projectiles; 55 grains, to supply the muzzle velocity, recoil and aim most AR-15 men are well versed in. The jacket is made of copper alloy – nonferromagnetic – and girdled by a cannelure to keep the FMJ where it belongs in the case mouth. Barrel twist anywhere between 1:16” and 1:7” ought to do it!
This ammo’s cases aren’t polished and shiny, but they aren’t reloaded/remanufactured, either. They are annealed, like all brass should be once it is formed, which is the sole reason for their surface-only discoloration.
Resist the urge to pin the empty box to a backstop and shoot Federal’s logo. That would be disrespectful to a great American ammunition manufacturer.
