The 7mm Backcountry cartridge is still something of a rarity at the time of writing, but Federal Premium is doing everything in their power to capture long-range hunters’ attention. That takes the form of loading their thrilling new cartridge with one of the most effective all-distance bullets they have ever developed: the Terminal Ascent.
The Terminal Ascent makes mincemeat of frontal air resistance. It has an AccuChannel groove to reduce bearing surface on the rifling and minimize fouling. It also features a Slipstream polymer tip, which diminishes drag to an extent that earns the 155 grain Terminal Ascent a G7 ballistic coefficient of .300. That same tip helps the bullet mushroom wide at all impact velocities, and its terminal ballistics are all the more effective thanks to the Terminal Ascent’s fully bonded copper shank. High weight retention is assured, even if your quarry appears closer to your muzzle than you’d anticipated.
Federal recorded this round’s 3,300 fps muzzle velocity and .300 G7 BC with a 24” barrel. If your barrel is 20”, then you can expect 3,150 fps muzzle velocity and 0.295 G7 BC instead.
