This is a serious .45 caliber self-defense cartridge. Its bullet’s not lead-free because Corbon intends their DPX label ammunition to be environmentally friendly. It’s loaded with a solid copper hollow point because that bullet neutralizes the threat, fast.
Its lack of dense lead lets this round’s SCHP weigh only 160 grains. It gains an extraordinarily fast muzzle velocity without traversing into +P territory, and can strike harder out of a 3” barrel than a 230 grain JHP would out of 5”.
The SCHP also lacks a jacket that could have separated from its core. That and its high ductility enables the SCHP to conserve most – if not all – of its weight as it blasts through a car door or window. Lighter barriers pose even less obstacle to the strong SCHP, which reliably penetrates 12 to 18 deep within ballistic gel, regardless of whether the gel is shielded by heavy clothing.
The SCHP only commences expansion once soft tissue pressurizes within its nose cavity. At that point, the bullet’s internal serrations split apart to yield six cutting petals. They rend and mash flesh, as well as help the bullet shed energy before it can emerge from the other side of the threat.
