CCI has not loaded a magically powerful 22 LR cartridge, although the Idahoan company has come up with one of the most effective solutions to rimfire defense to date. If your back’s ever up against a wall, throw an Uppercut!

This cartridge’s 32 grain bullet DOES NOT have an abnormally slow muzzle velocity. CCI simply captured its 950 fps muzzle velocity with a 4” barrel, as opposed to a 20 or 24” one (the shorter the barrel, the lower the muzzle velocity, generally speaking). That makes sense, because the defensive round’s chamber pressure and bullet are both optimized for pistols with 2.5 to 4” barrels.

This round’s bullet isn’t a copper-plated hollow point. It’s a true jacketed hollow point: unwaxed, with a hard and tough shell that promotes deep enough penetration to access a threat’s vital organ. The JHP’s jacket is skived, and therefore equipped to open up wide despite the 22 LR’s characteristically low striking energy.
