A lot of different 9mm cartridges are intended for dealing with human threats. Extremely few are designed for handling the very smallest of threats to your personal safety, as well as forcibly removing varmints from your premises. CCI Pest Control Shotshell ammunition? It’s one of those exceptions.

This shell has a plastic capsule around its case mouth. It’s not a bullet. It’s only shaped that way to guide smooth feeding. Ignition destroys the dome to release the real payload: 43 grains of #11 bismuth shot. They haul out of a 4” barrel at 950 fps muzzle velocity, and proceed to become a cloud of death to any vermin at *extremely* close range.

This round has a power factor of only 40.9. That’s WAY too low to operate a semi-automatic, so you’ll have to rack each round manually.

This ammo goes real soft on the environment. Its bismuth shot is nontoxic (made of the same active ingredient in Pepto-Bisol, no less), and its Federal Catalyst primers are lead free as well. Neat as it would be to try, you cannot reload CCI’s aluminum cases. They’re one-and-done only.

Is this round lethal to humans?
Answer: Hi Mark! Any 9mm cartridge has the potential to neutralize a human threat. That being said, this is quite possibly the worst 9mm ammo you could choose for defense, short of blanks. I can't recommend it for anything other than killing rodents, snakes, and large arachnids.
