This round’s bullet is Hornady’s own ELD-X. At 143 grains, it is a popular weight for competitive shooting and deer hunting alike. The ELD-X’s polymer tip is a Heat Shield, which earns its name by remaining undeformed until impact with the target. The bullet’s thin and concentric AMP jacket, boat tail, and secant ogive side profile all make their own contributions to its superior accuracy.

The ELD-X deals swift death to deer at all ranges. At low-velocity (400+ yds) impact, the bullet mushrooms widely while retaining 85-90% of its weight. At high-velocity (0-400 yds) impact, its InterLock ring assures no less than 50% weight retention. The only thing you have to worry about is shot placement.
