The .45-70 Government was originally named “.45-70-405” after its bullet diameter, volume of black powder, and bullet weight. That name would not apply to this modern ammunition by Armscor, of course. It’s bullet diameter still qualifies, although it is loaded with a lighter charge of modern smokeless propellant *and* its bullet is considerably lighter at 300 grains.

This round’s lighter bullet is quite advantageous if you’re after a flatter trajectory. Its 1,854 fps muzzle velocity is *roughly* 500 fps higher than an original 405 grain load’s, which helps the bullet exhibit less of that arching, rainbow-like trajectory which makes the .45-70 relatively more difficult to fire over longer distances.

Armscor is a Philippine company, *but* their USA label ammo comes from USA. Montana is specifically the state where this hunting ammo received its new reloadable brass cases and noncorrosive Boxer primers.

That’s right – hunting! The flat-flying 300 grain JHP initiates terminal expansion immediately upon breaking through hide, and it’s heavy enough to reliably turn a whitetail’s shoulder blade into multiple pieces of a whitetail’s shoulder blade.
