The .32 H&R Magnum’s low recoil, high pressure, and fast muzzle velocity have all won you over. You have adopted a fine little revolver for self-defense already. The only remaining thing to bring home? The ammo, of course.
Armscor (a Philippine megacorp that loads its USA series ammo in Montana) selected an ideal jacketed hollow point (JHP) for this dedicated defense cartridge (which could also be extremely useful for hunting coyote with a lever gun): the eXtreme Terminal Performance, by Hornady of Nebraska.
The XTP’s jacket has more performance-enhancing features than those of the average JHP. It is drawn (as opposed to plated), which enables Hornady to taper its thickness so it becomes progressively narrower toward its tip. This and the XTP’s precision-cut serrations produce brisk yet controlled terminal expansion, even at low velocities. The XTP’s jacket covers the entirety of the lead core’s nose cavity’s rim, which it protects from becoming too damaged on impact to function correctly. The XTP’s jacket also bears a cannelure to combat against bullet creep, and is highly concentric to complement the swaged lead core’s accuracy-enhancing balance.
