Get The Maximum Recoil Reduction For Your 338

American Precision Arms are well known for building extremely accurate custom rifles, manufacturing high end precision rifle components, and are best known for developing the "Bastard" muzzle brake, which is considered by many precision rifle competitors to be the most effective brake available to date.

So why are so many hardcore shooters rocking APA brakes on their rigs?

APA reengineered the traditional muzzle brake to be ultra effective and super easy to use. They use an integral locking or self timing nut, which allows for much easier installation. It is easier to make sure that the brake is timed/oriented straight up and down. This easy installation allows you to move the brake from one barrel to another and remove the muzzle brake for cleaning without crush washers or a bench vice. While no muzzle brake is easy to clean, all the nooks and crannies in the baffles can be reached with a brass pick, if the sonic cleaner leaves some stuck on carbon behind.

Also, they have the 'Bastard' port design, which is similar to the rear angled port with one added key feature. This feature is sometimes referred to as a tooth. This tooth directs the gas away from the forward gas stream, stopping the gas from being able to slip back into the stream. The great efficiency of the tooth is not simply encompassed in its ability to move gas out of the way. There is a second and possibly more relevant effect as a result of the tooth's internal geometry. The gas collides into the corner or "nook" generated by the way it is machined. As a result of this, a parachute effect is created, pulling the gun forward, against the gun's natural recoil. Due to the design, the harder the muzzle brake is pushed, the more effective it becomes.
