Its plain box conceals how special this ammunition is. It is 7.62x51mm MK319 MOD 0. It was originally only available to SOCOM, for use in the FN SCAR. The “MOD 0” in its name designates that this particular ammo was not manufactured with the intent to sell it to the commercial market – but that’s not stopping you from buying it now.

The MK319 cartridge is optimized for the SCAR’s shorter tube. (Its apparently low 2,700 fps muzzle velocity was recorded with a 16” test barrel for that reason.) That and its open tip match projectile assure high accuracy. The MK319 cartridge’s bullet is substantially tougher than a competition OTM. It preserves a superior portion of its weight after having penetrated a barrier (e.g. a windshield or vehicle door), which conserves the momentum it needs to enter deeply into the threat afterward.

The OTM’s talents do not include terminal expansion (as convention prohibits the use expanding bullets during warfare), which is why its utility for home defense is arguably less than ideal. But if you just want the best accuracy you can get out of your shorter-barreled 7.62 NATO (or .308 Win rifle), this ammo will take you to hog heaven.
