Are these better for practice in the range or as self defense? Gonna be getting first gun and not very knowledgeable yet on ammo.
Answer:
Hello Karesca! Happy to be of as much help as I can. The full metal jacket (FMJ) bullet is intended for training only. For defense, you want a bullet that expands as it penetrates its target, as that (A) reduces the risk of over-penetration that could harm an innocent bystander, and (B) inflicts more damage to the threat. There are many excellent choices of 380 ACP self-defense ammo, but the very best I can recommed is this police-grade ammo from Minnesota (it's what I carry myself): https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/federal-premium-hst-.380-acp-ammo-99-grain-hst-jhp/fc-029465065553.html .
