Life’s too short to spend doing anything other than varmint hunting. Am I suggesting that you shouldn’t do anything besides hunting varmints? YES. Am I suggesting that you should choose American Quality Ammunition, which is loaded in the great state of Montana, for the job? ALSO YES.

This round’s 55 grain projectile is something of a celebrity. It’s the V-MAX, by Hornady, which may just be the name brand hunting bullet that has taken more small game than any other name brand bullet.

The V-MAX is highly self-destructive. Its polymer tip’s tail extends into a precision-formed cavity within its swaged lead core, but stops just shy of touching it. Impact forces the polymer tip to rapidly close the gap, building up enough energy in the process to cause extensive fragmentation of the bullet. Its exceptionally thin copper jacket makes V-MAX’s terminal effect that much more dramatic (but also makes the V-MAX unsuitable for taking larger game. It’s a plenty accurate bullet thanks to its sharp tip and balanced AMP jacket and core. Hornady promises expansion at impact velocities as low as 1,600 fps, which makes this round highly effective throughout the .22-250’s entire effective range!
