Unlike standard direct impingement gas systems, a piston driven system prevents fouling and carbon from venting and building up inside the receiver by expelling them forward and away from the shooter. This also assists the operator by stopping the uncomfortable side effect of being "gassed" or inhaling the emissions blown through the receiver, when firing suppressed. The Adams Arms Piston kit includes all necessary parts and hardware required for installation. Please note that some aftermarket handguards and proprietary barrel nuts are not compatible with this kit. It is recommended to check with Adams Arms or handguard manufacturer for compatibility.

What size systems are used for carbine and mid-length AR-15s?

This kit is designed for a rifle length gas system. If you have a carbine length gas system, then you need a carbine length kit. Check out item # 7-FGAA03107. If you have a mid-length gas system, then you need a mid-length kit. Check out item # 41960.

Rifle length is an industry term that means a gas system that is the same dimensions as the original M16. Almost every 20" barrel has a rifle-length gas system with ~ 12" handguards.

As pictured. Piston systems require a special type of bolt carrier. You supply the rest of the parts for the BCG.
