This is NOT a snap cap, as the instructions state it should not be used to dry fire. It is a so-called handling dummy which I suppose can be used to test magazine function and maybe in a classroom setting. I have dry fired mine and predictably the rim takes a good ding which raises a little metal on the outer edge. If you intend to dry fire them I think you can get some life out of them and are willing to file off raised metal and inspect them regularly.

I bought these in anticipation of my nephew coming to my ranch. I had bought him a Savage bolt action and had put a small Bushnell scope on it. It would be his very first gun and it was a suprise. We were going after pigs. Anyway so I bought these rounds so I could teach him how to cycle rounds through the chamber and during the 'lesson' my nephew accidentally dry fires the gun. It completely messed up the firing pin. Luckily the store near the ranch carried the extra part. I put the new firing pin in and the next day when we went hunting my 6 year old nephew bagged a two hundred and fifty pound HOG!
