Original Swiss Ranger stove sets constructed of lightweight aluminum weighing 15 ounces. The set contains an insulated bottle with a cork lid, winged handle canteen cup, and a wing handled vented stove. Place a fuel source such as Trioxanne (MGR-826) or WetFire Tinder (CAMP-221) in the stove and heat the bottle or cup to warm liquids, MRE's, or soup. These are a must have for all emergency kits, used in Grade I condition.

This is a great little kit. As previous reviews mentioned, it does belong in one of your kits. I don't carry the bottle. The cork is too much of a spill/sanitary issue. Some folks just replace the bottle in the kit with a store bought aluminum bottle. I use the inside of the stove to carry my culinary kit, which is in a nylon bag. I cut the bottom out of my stove so I can use my Esbit Spirit Trangia clone alcohol stove, which works great. Used a Dremel tool; took about 30 min by hand. Easy to place in and remove the stove and I'm able to use the snuffer lid/burner adjustment lid with ease. Boils 1 cup of water in about 3.5 min. Going to buy another when CTD gets them back in stock. Good luck and happy trails.

Lightweight, packs up easy, and liquids can be heated with a variety of different fuels. For $10 this belongs in your kit! I'm taking it along on my next hiking trip and think it will be a great companion for our camp stove, and a perfect backup if we run out of fuel. Some of the reviewers seemed to misunderstand the purpose of this product, expecting to transport hot liquids under cork, or even using the corked bottle as regular water bottle is silly. This is for heating up liquids, soups and whatnot, in a pinch. I wouldn't expect the pot I keep spaghetti in to double as a water bottle... Anyway, great product, if it wasn't on back order right now, I'd order another today.

I bought one of these last year. It came brand new, obviously never issued. In my backyard test run I boiled water in about 8 minutes using sticks. The next time I used it was camping on top of Mt. Kilington. It is difficult to keep going in windy conditions. If you are going to rely on this for backpacking you should practice with it before heading out. I wrapped my stove in a plastic bag, to keep the soot off my pack, and carried it in one of the side water bottle pouches. I had no problems with the clanking noises other people have mentioned.

Arrived in perfect shape. Clean with just a slight stale smell in the bottle, no worries. It's light and it's creatively made with the wires and the cup. Something I didn't understand before I got it was that you can put the cup into the top of the stove and heat a cup's worth of soup or whatever, but you can also put the bottle/flask into the stove for heating. The wire handle kind of folds over and a little tab pokes through and holds up the bottle over the flame. So you can cook in the bottle or in the cup. Cool.
