Bought four of these, one had a bent latch which would not engage, but I was able to straighten it out with a couple of wrenches. Exteriors a little rusty, interiors beautiful. Note: all four were probably water cans which I believe you can identify by the white paint markings, and orange gaskets which are NOT suitable for petroleum storage. I purchased four new (black) gaskets which should be fine for petroleum storage as well as a spout that is compatible with unleaded fuel restrictors, from britishpacific. CTD doesn't appear to stock these items, otherwise I would have purchased them here, it took a while to track down suitable ones, so hope this helps, and britishpacific was excellent, if a little unconventional to order from.

I ordered 4, outside was scuffed, inside was clean, seals need to be replaced as they are water cans. Spout I have does not fit since they are water cans.

Ordered 4 of these right off the bat, and now I wish I had ordered 10 of them - this is the BEST DEAL on gas cans I have ever seen. They are sturdy and seal well, and if they were used, then not much - All of the seals and lids and latches were in near perfect condition (1962 to 1970 vintage range). I was skeptical because of the low price tag and mail order . . . But this is (was) a great deal and I wish I bought more.

Bought six of these, all were in great condition. Early to late seventies production. All had white painted nozzles. (Water?) Most had fabric tied around the mouth, then the lid shut on top of that. Seals were excellent if not brand new. I wonder if these cans were used at all. Do note, the standard U.S. made NATO nozzles will not fit on these cans. You need to seek out the German made NATO can nozzles. Excellent cans, I'm buying more as soon as I type this.

I received my gas can very quick. Dated 1978. Very good condition. Would buy more.

I've been stockpiling these for a year waiting for the big one here on the coast. I was ready and so were my full 10 cans of diesel and gas. We had 6 days of no gas stations in our areas. Never had to tap my full reserve or worry about the generator running dry..My biggest concern was getting them stolen. Had to hide them out and camouflage them. if I'm on the Gulf Coast next summer I'll have another 10-20 on hand when the really big one hits.I painted the spouts green for diesel and red for gas. I live near Cheaper Than Dirt so I was able to go down to the store and cherry pick four late-date cans. The cans have a manufacture date stamped on them. It seemed to vary widely from the 70s to 2000s. In any case, the cans are great. They seal well and the insides seem to be coated with a an epoxy paint to prevent corrosion. The only possible downside is that the companion pour spout is far too large to fit into a civilian vehicle's fuel filler neck. I bought a large (tall, not wide) funnel with a narrow neck at Pep Boys. It dumps gas into the tank as fast as I can pour it. Resist the temptation to buy any funnel with a flexible neck. Because of the handle design on these cans, you'll be using both hands to pour and the flexible neck funnel will 'flop'. Get a rigid funnel with a long enough neck that it will sit deep (4+ inches) into the filler neck on your car.

Just received two 5 gallon cans that I ordered two days ago. They arrived as advertised. Used, ... not new, but just as good as my new cans from Wedco that cost $45 dollars each. They are not as pretty, but pretty doesn't count when you are in a pinch. A good, practical purchase.

I bought two cans. Good condition. Gasket on a lid is in good shape too. I will paint them red to comply with DOT and will be good to go for my next off road trip. Thank you CTD!!!

I bought two cans, filled them up for storage with gas at $3.50 per gallon. I bought three more when gas hit $3.75. The first two were in rough shape and needed some work. The other three are in great shape. Good buy, even at $20 each.

Ordered 2 of these cans, will definetly be purchasing more. Used condition, with only minor scratches. Tight seals. No rust. Both have diesel labels on them, and still have trace amounts of fuel in them. Just what I expected.

Bought 2 of these several months ago and they were $10, then bought 2 more a little later and they were $15, now I see they're $20. Even at $20 they are still a great deal, but it makes me a little worried that the demand is starting to outweigh the supply. BUY NOW !! Gas and these cans are only going to go up in price. I've looked around a bit and Cheaper Than Dirt still has the best price AND all 4 cans I've purchased so far are in great shape. Like one reviewer said below, put the Sta-Bil in first. Actually what I did that probably works a little better is to put 1 ounce in first then fill the can half full and then put in the other ounce, (since it takes 2 ounces of Sta-Bil to treat 5 gallons of gas). Another reviewer was concerned about rust, but I live in So. Arizona and rust is pretty much non-existent, but I agree with him since I used to live in Seattle and these can could likely rust in places like that so keep them full or painted.

I still have two of these cans in use. The U.S. Army (1 AD) bought a crap-load of these before our deployment to the 1st Gulf War because we did not have enough of our regular metal/Spector cans available. Keep fuel in them or they will rust on the inside. I had a few others and had to throw them out for rusting issues. Overall a good fuel can if you rotate your stock often.

I purchased this in 1999 for Y2K before they could not ship to New York (I am not sure wy they banned this - slingshots are illegal you have to be 21 to buy a marking pen, spray paint is locked up in hardware stores like ammo is locked up elsewhere so this does not surprise me). I just filled up one last week it's still good as the day I bought it. It's been stored in a shed outside. Very little rust (just had to brush off the dirt & cob webs). If you need a good can I highly recommend this can! The spout affords easy pouring (I had to wrap mine with black electrical tape) it is a little slow because there is no air exchange as gas goes out but it works great & has a custom fit for the can.

Purchased four of these cans and could not be more happy. Three of them where as close as you could get to brand new and the other had a few wear marks. These kind of cans new cost between $50 to $60 dollars and even with shipping these came out to about $20 a piece. I would say thats a pretty good buy.

As you can tell from my review below (and I know it was hard to read), we researched the fuel storage issue a lot after the Florida hurricanes. At the time it happened, hardly any of us had generators (I had two small ones) or even extra gas cans other than you normally keep for the mower. Now we have all been abused and educated and nearly every garage has a new 5500 watt generator and six red plastic gas cans (all empty). So, what will happen next time? Fuel was very hard to come by then and what will happen now when everyone takes their (6) gas cans and gets in line? It is true that some of us store (ok hoard) a little gasoline, but we did it during off season years ago. I don't have to buy it ever again. It's part of the flow now just like being in your car gas tank. We don't use any more gasoline than before (even when the cans get refilled) because that gas is still good and it goes into your car. Do you see how that works? Just saying that if you live here and thought gas was hard to come by last time, just wait. These NATO cans are great and we feel much much safer now than with the common plastic ones for storage. If your'e just filling and using a couple of the plastic ones immediately, no problem, but that is all they are good for unless you spend some serious $$$ on expensive cans and then will they last a lifetime? Do a search for "NATO fuel cans" you'll see what I mean.

Bought four of these, and everything looks good. The outside was dirty, but in good shape. Two tanks had blue bands on the handle (blue normally means Kerosene), one had a paper label saying diesel and had a little bit of diesel in it. The plastic coating inside the tanks appears in good shape. Rubber seals appeared in good shape; I haven't leak tested them, but the tanks with leftover diesel had pressurized themselves and hissed when I opened them (i.e. i'm pretty sure they'll seal!).

A group of us bought a bunch of these at work a couple of years ago (from CTD). I have (8). I cleaned up and painted (4) red and kept the other (4) as is. Mine all have the marker tags that can be slid out and flipped over to show what is in the can. All of the cans are lined with a coating and it's condition will vary can to can. Not so much of a problem except you should have a nozzle with a screen. I also purchased different nozzles. Don't buy a cheap nozzle, buy a military one. The nozzle I use mostly however is a plastic hose assembly that fits into the can upright and has a nozzle similar to a regular gas station pump. (I purchased it at Ace Hardware). When you squeeze the handle it pumps and then will siphon. I set a small throw rug on the top of the car trunk and set the can there on top. This makes the process effortless and empties the can completely. (any can) These NATO cans are used and you can expect some dings and light rust in places, but it is the same wherever you order surplus cans. At the current sale price of $10 each, this is probably your best bet unless you have somewhere close enough to pickup and eliminate shipping. Use 2oz of (new) Stabil to store gas for 1 year. Stabil itself keeps for (2) years once opened, so don't get carried away and buy the largest size bottle. Give your old Stabil away after the (2) year period and buy more. If you have leaking seal problems for any reason. you can find them on the internet or maybe here now. These NATO cans are common. Rinse out your cans with some gas with the lid closed and you'll see a seal leak if it's there. Your cans need to be tight. For a quick fix just lay a thin piece of rubber gasket material from the parts store across the tiller top and close it. One of the (8) I have leaks slightly and I have used the gasket now for (2) years. I just ordered (4) extra seals. These cans hold 20 liters (5 1/4 gal). Put your stabilizer in first then fill to the bottom of the spout inside the can leaving the least amount of air inside. When you open a can it may have 10-15psi of pressure on a hot day. Tilt it back 30 degrees and put the opening up to prevent spewing any fuel. All cans have this kind of pressure if they seal. It is the vapor pressure of gasoline. This is one of the reasons you are buying metal ones designed to be set out in the hot sun for years. This is about plastic cans only - If you have the common new red unvented plastic cans and you haven't yet bought metal ones, make sure you put the black plastic nozzle on the OUTSIDE of the can when it is full and turn the nozzle straight up. These cans have a very tiny warning label that explains, but if you put the nozzle back inside the can as it came, it will leak (vent) out all of the gas onto the floor down to the bottom of the nozzle. Remember the nozzle is the vent. I keep (8) cans stabilized for one year and change them out each spring (just did it). That will last me (3) days on a generator. There is no comparison between the common plastic cans and these military cans in the quality and amount of fuel stored in the can after one year. I used plastic for the first year, a lot of fuel evaporated and one of our cars wouldn't hardly run on the gas when I used it. This is not the case with the metal ones. They are still full and sweet after a year. The Stabil acts as a type of injector cleaner and should not be a problem for the engine. I required (45) 5 gal cans of gasoline for the power outages during the Florida hurricanes 3 years ago (not to mention a lot of damage). What a nightmare. All I can say is, whatever the emergency is you are thinking about, be prepared now. Gasoline should be on the bottom of the list compared to the safety of your family and home.

Very good product, purchased 2 then reordered 2 more, all were in good shape with good seals, some needed a little paint for touch up but no dents or problems found, with a gas price projection of $4.00 soon, I wish I had more, Note the filler neck is not round and you will need to order the right filler attachment.

Purchased this can about a week ago, and I love it. Its used, but it makes it look that much more unique and cool.
