"The canteen cups are nice - holds about a pint. When heating the cup, it rests in the aluminum tube and absorbs heat very efficiently. The aluminum bottle is light but sturdy, and can be heated also. The bottle would also have potential as \"boiler\" that could be heated directly in a campfireNo actual burner is included, but this set can use triox or similar solid fuels. You can also burn alcohol in a small metal cup, like a salsa cup. A Trangia burner would come close to melting the whole thing."

"This is a great little stove. It's light weight and compact design are great for then car or light weight hiking/camping. This is actually the second one that I have bought, and am also getting one for a friend. The frist one served me well, until a craft accident reduced the stove to a puddle of Al, but the cup, and the bottle still serve me well. You can use almost any fuel source (wood, alcohol (even the trangia will work), military fuel packets). As long as you heat the cup/canteen with liquid in the they won't melt, and as long as the stove has a good cool air flow you won't have any problems. The only thing I would change about it, would be to make it out of stainless or Ti. Would make it a little weighty, but it would be worth it in added durablity. Definatly well worth the money."

"Sturdy surplus stove kit. Looks like it fell off the mountain but still boils a cup of water with 2 heat tabs. very good buy"

"This stove looks like brand new and is very light weight. This unit will be be very useful on long hiking trips. Great Buy!!!!!!!!!!"

"OK, I like this product very much. But some sort of instructions as to its use and limits would have been awesome. For example: I am assuming that the fuel tablets will rest inside the stove with the canteen or cup nestled inside. The trick seems to be not to melt the bottom of the canteen. This weekend I will take it on a dry practice run and see if I dont destroy one of the 4 I bought."

"While esbit tablets can be used, this stove was actually intended to use wood chips as fuel. Esbit use will slowly (or quickly depending on use) destroy the stove. If used as intended this is a fairly lightweight and easy to use set, and works fine for emergency use or for a single hiker to prepare meals."

"Not a volcano stove like the unique Irish Kelly kettle. Beautifully made but impractical in use. The Al cup easily tips and burns the lips just as the old GI canteen cup with rolled edge. The Germans solved this problem by installing nylon inserts on the rim. Unless one wears gloves be prepared to burn your fingers when pouring hot water from the canteen to cup. A challenge to use efficiently."

"I've had mine for a few years with no problems. I used heat tabs at first but now use alcohol (HEAT) in a thru-hiker stove. It takes a couple of burns but I like to heat the whole bottle of water. Gloves? Hey, I'm in North Dakota. We usually know where our gloves are! One thing to watch, though, is to store the thing without the cork in the bottle. Tends to mildew if it's not perfectly dry."

"Good looking stove. I'm not quite sure what to do with it as far as a fuel source. I'll try an alcohol stove inside the stove and use it as a wind break/cup stand."

"Works great but mine came bent. It runs great on wood chips and gets hot very fast but if the pot or pan is larger than the top it likes to tip. It was one of the best 4 bucks i've ever spent."

"This thing is lightweight but sturdily built. It takes up more space in the pack than many stoves but you can remedy a little of that by omitting the cork-topped water bottle and store cooking utensils inside or even better, cut the top off the bottle and make an extra pot that you can store things in. It securely holds the cup it was designed to use better than almost any other stove I've used and the cup is big enough to heat an entire can of food. Other cooking pots could probably sit on top with little trouble. It doesn't fold up so it won't collapse under the weight of a pot of food. It can get top heavy and tip easily, but so will most other stoves, just cook on a level spot. I especially like it because I don't burn my fingers, because I don't have to touch anything to keep it from falling over or falling off the top when I stir.Overall for the price and utility I'd have to rank it highly."

"Howdy! Am just ordering 3 more. As they have been out of stock here for awhile. As far as firing them up I suggest drinking a couple of beers or sodas if that is what ya like and do Not crush the cans. Instead build your self one of the many \"pepsi can\" alcohol stoves designs on the internet. It will fit right on top of the stopper and under the cup for transport. I used two Miller cans for mine. And did the double wall construction and I also used one cut off lid and taped up the hole to make a snuffer. The little thing burns hot and furious in this stove kit. Of course ya gotta use gloves or your bandanna to handle the stove or bottle. Duhhhh! You can use regular 70% or better isopropyl alcohol in it or denatured alcohol which burns better or any other alcohol fuel. Tip: When trying to get the burner lighted use a long butane lighter or make up some fire starter by dipping cotton balls in petroleum jelly and packing them in any small container. Wrap a wad of cotton on a stick and light your mini torch. One little cotton ball will start really damp tinder. I am an old granny hiker/survivalist and I love this little stove. I got a big Triangia mess kit and stove but it is too much for short trips or just making a cup of soup or java. I gotta carry a canteen anyway. As far as it being made out of aluminum instead of steel. Well, stainless would be nice. But it would be a lot heavier. Which is why I like it. It is light. As for the worry about aluminum absorption and health risks. I know old folks (really old folks) who have eaten and drunk out of aluminum ware for all their lives and are healthy as can be and got sharper wits than me. Aluminum toxicity I wager comes from what you smear on your armpits or whats lurking in city water. My friends drink out of a cistern or spring or well and are content to stink a little until they wash up.I highly recommend this neat little combo for any of you who like to travel light. "1/4 - 3/8 oz of spirits and BAM, a cup of coffee. I have made a spirit stove out of an old capacitor can that just covers the cork. Considering ditching the bottle and substituting a small fuel bottle. Any space remaining might fit essentials like folding Spork & Lighter. Only regret is that it wasn't a bit shorter."

"These are well made and offer great fuel flexability. I'm not sure what the Swiss military paid for these, but you can be sure it's more than you will. Great for backpacking or an emergency stove. Well thought out system! It gives you what is essencial in a personal survival/hikers stove in a fit together, compact high quality unit. A+++++ for item and value at price! Both of mine came in new excellent condition."

"after a long hike down the Andies i find these work great with twigs/dried grass/tea lite candles/ a small Gram weenie alcohol Stove/Triox/Hexi/ even a spoonfull of sterno.Be carefull not to lose the cork.I would boil in the kettle, and pour the boiling water into the Cup.with crushed Ramen, and a hot Dog when I could find themCover the Cup for 5 or 6 minutes wih Aluminum Foilthen throw in 2 tea bags into the left over water in the Kettle.it was good for another 10 Miles of hikingHome now i don't go fishing without this set.Nicely made"

"I Bought this item along with item No. MOLLE-010. The two together, though bordering on a little \"pricey\" are, I believe, a must have. MOLLE-010 is an insulated pouch that exactly fits the Swiss Ranger Stove. The two together comprise a canteen, cup, stove, carrier pouch and the pouch has a 6\" X 5\" compartment that holds trioxene fuel and waterproof matches or whatever else you might prefer. These two together offer great utility along with the convenience of being MOLLE compatible."

"I received a cook set that was not in excellent condition, and I intend to return it for another one. The bottle is dented and has a pin hole. Also, the bottle is not double-walled or insulated as indicated in the advertisment, it is just a single wall aluminum bottle."

"I purchased two sets of these they were sent fast, but they both looked like they had been at the bottom of a pallet that was run over with a tank! Both had several dents and were smashed, I called CTD and they said that they were non returnable, I said they were dammaged before being sent, they sent me two more sets, as replacements, they were both in the same condition! Please don't sell me the junk ones anymore! As far as the stoves yes they work great, but these last four I recieved from CTD are useless!"

"Okay. Definitely had scratches and a few dents but nothing too bad."

"I ordered three of these on Tuesday and got them Wednesday. I received them in excellent condition with no dents or major scratches. I Tried it out and had water bubbling at 5 minutes and at a rolling boil at 7 using a couple of handfuls of twigs."

"I Received mime today and aside from some minor storage marks it is in perfect condition and looks unused/issued. Will be adding this to my ALICE pack as a small stove with some triox or wetfire. Great Deal!"

"I bought one of these stove's and just boiled water in my backyard. It's a little dented but works great. It's light and very easy to use. It's already in my ruck sack."

"Stove arrived in like-new condition. I tested the stove using a small piece of fire starter and a handful of sticks. The cup of water was boiling in only a few minutes. Its very efficient. It actually only used a portion of my tinder to bring the water to a boil. It may not be as fast as my Sierra zip stove, but then again it doesn't need a AA battery and fan like the zip stove. This stove is as simple as it can get. It will be great not having to carry white gas or propane with me in the back country."

"I just wanted to mention a couple things as well.1) I bought two, they were in great used condition.2) The Molle bags work perfectly with it.Black - MOLLE-011Coyote Tan - MOLLE-012OD Green - MOLLE-010Army Digital - MOLLE-7413) Use Swiss M1 Stove Gel Fuel it was designed for it, it will work with MANY other fuels (as seen on youtube) but the M1 Stove works without modification or frustration."

"Hey mates, I was going to buy a few of these when I noticed in the description that these fit perfectly in the ModGear Water Bottle Pouch. I thought that was splendid because I already had a Water Bottle Pouch on my Urban Survival/Tactical Vest. When I tried fitting the stoves into the Water Bottle Pouch it worked fantastically and the fuel does nestle into the side pouch like it was made for it. What a perfect match that I can now safely carry my Volcano Stove. Now I can have a nice piping hot spot of tea when I am enjoying frog sashimi or roasted rat with scallions. Brilliant Combination!"

"I just got mine in today, seems in good shape. Not a single dent on it, but like other reviewers mine does have some storage wear on it, a few little abrasions on the surface, nothing to cry about. Seems sturdy I'm happy with the purchase, for the price it seems reasonable enough to me!"

"Buy them before they are gone again. This item does not stay in stock for long. Then, you end up waiting for it again to hit CTD inventory again. Arrived in great condition. It is all scuffed up from storage, but not used at all. Looks great, works great! Just like previous reviewers said it fits great into Water Bottle Pouch (MOLLE-010). Makes it look good also. Definitely buy that one too."

"I bought one of these kits thinking it was great because everything \"appeared\" to fit together, boy I was surprised that it did even more!-I have used either alcohol in a tea light cup or fuel tabs for heat so far.-The wavy handle flips over to be the pot holding handle if you stick the 90 degree bent handle into the slit on the side of the chimney.-The 90* bend becomes the resting point for the bottle which can act as a tea pot if you just lightly set the cork in the bottle's mouth.-The cup can be placed into the top of the chimney to cook out of.-I have put a small piece of grill-like metal on top of the chimney and done some hot dog grilling-The whole kit goes back together smoothly, and if you line up the 90* bend hoop with the rivet on the cup the wavy handle will lock into place at the top of the whole kit and keep the wing handle on the cup in place.-A little bit of toothpaste works great at scrubbing off the built up soot.-I would suggest replacing the provided cork stopper with a rubber (like from a science supple store) one in the long run."

"I ordered this stove and thought it would be ok but I didn\uFFFDt expect much for this price. I ordered it online on a Sunday night and it was here two days later! It was new in package and in perfect condition. I read in one comment it was listed as a double wall bottle but was a single. The bottle is double wall and holds both heat and cold, whichever it is being used for. I have used it 4 times and it works great. One Wetfire or Weber cubes can bring the 2.5 cup bottle to a rolling boil. Get this set up, get out there and enjoy. The service of this company is next to none. Great products, great prices, great service and faster than you'll believe."

"Mine arrived in great condition, a little ding on the bottom of the water bottle only. Someone wrote that this is not an Irish \"Kelly Kettle\"....that is true, there's no comparing with that. But then you are not paying 36 Euros for this item either! All in all, this is well worth the price tag."

"Planning on get a few more for my nephews. I like it as much as my Kelly Kettle and better than my heavy Swedish cook set (which is good in its own right.)"

"My Ranger volcano stove set arived today, it is in excellent, unissued condition, a slight dent on the bottom of canteen cup, but that is all. I saved more buying from CTD ! Thank you."

"WOW, all I can say is Im buying another one. I received in great condition. Took it outside, used twigs and some small sticks within 5 mins, I had boiling water. Smokes a lot, works very fast, and is very easy to use. A great great camping stove for cooking up your MRE's and boiling water etc."

"I got this in yesterday and tried it that night in my garage with some twigs I had in the fire pit out back. You will get a lot of soot with the wood, so you may want to wipe the stove off before putting it back in your pack. Other than that it is a excellent stove. I had boiling water in no time and it packs up nice and tight and fits in my bag perfectly (MOLLE-125) in the bottom pocket. Also the Swiss gel burner is pretty cool and works well with this. I might buy 1 more."

"I bought mine on a Thursday, it came in on Saturday and I decided to cook some Raman on Sunday. It brought the cup to a boil in about 8 minutes and Raman was done 3 minutes after that! I'm in Colorado in decent altitude of 6,500 ft. I was very impressed and I can't wait to take this camping."

"I received my stove last week. Tried it with tablets, solid fuel (wood), and homemade alcohol burners. Each brought the cup and the bottle to rolling boils in less than 5 minutes (more than acceptable for my purposes) and cleaned up nicely. The toothpaste cleaner is a good idea. Now I've got 2 more on the way to give to my girlfriend and my buddy."

"Just got my stove kit today, and already I love it. Boiled water with esbit, tea lights, and wood with very little hassle. Fits perfectly in the side pocket of my MOLLE-008 backpack. The insulated bottle with the cork lid isn't exactly water tight, but will make a perfect alcohol stove for this kit. Anyone who wants to see how to make an alcohol stove out of this bottle, watch the \"Weekend Adventurer's\" \"How to make an ultralight alcohol stove\" video on youtube. Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/user/WeekendAdventurer#p/u/38/AcrW27Leo4w"

"I was lucky enough to buy this at half the price with CTD's newsletter coupon and I'm glad I did. Swiss really know how to keep things simple, small and reliable. Basically if you ever made a \"Hobo Stove\" in the military or camping, you know how this stove works. It really cooks well with a Wet Fire cube alone but I used twigs and cardboard for a small fire and the heat was more then enough to boil water or cook. The water bottle keeps things cold or hot. The bottle can be placed in the stove for boiling same as the cup.All my items came mint and sealed in a plastic bag with no dents or markings.I placed mine in my car survival kit."

"The one I got looks like it was crushed then pounded back into shape with a ball-peen hammer. It looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa when standing. The cup bottom is crinkled, as is the lip and sides. You can see where someone used pliers to try to straighten the cup rim, leaving gouges and scratches. The bottle was mostly intact but corroded inside. Too bad as it looks, it once was exactly what I wanted, and if in just a little better condition it would be a bargain. Wish I got one of the fairly nice ones instead."

"I have used this several times just for fun! The water heats to a boil quickly for my Ramen. It fits great in my bug out bag and camping kit. I love it. I have even used the stove part with a small mess kit pan for oat meal. It's great! It came new. They are GREAT!"

"Ordered the stove just for fun. I figured for the low price it could be a great buy. Upon arrival I was surprised. It looked brand new and never used. I tried an MRE heater. it quickly brought the water to right under boiling in just minutes. If I would have added some tender I have no doubt it would have boiled. It also fit great in the ModGear water bottle pouch as recommended. Great buy for the coin!"

"An update from an earlier review. I ordered and received one of the Ranger stoves, and it looked like it had been crushed and pounded back into shape (sort of) with a hammer. I contacted customer service and described what I had received, and the rep indicated that this is the first time he had heard of a complaint about the Ranger stove, and immediately offered to send out a replacement. I received the replacement unit which appeared to be new in all aspects. We have used the stove with a simple alcohol burner (empty cat food can- no jets), with one of the gel fuel units, and with a soda-can alcohol stove. All worked very well. The open can was the slowest, and still boiled the metal cup full of water in 7 minutes, the other heat sources are faster. I have ordered three additional units for other family members. ++++ on the customer service response on this item."

"I had my fingers crossed after reading all the reviews, some people got their stoves all beat up but mine came in very good condition. It fit perfectly into my Mod gear water bottle pouch."

"This will be the second of the Swiss Ranger stoves I've bought. They're great. They're cleverly designed to nest together, and offer fold-out handles for stove and cup, solidly built, lightweight, effective, and a bargain at the price. I've been using mine with a small Sterno can, which works very well and doesn't soot up the inside of the stove. Oh--and check out Hiramcook's videos on testing the stove on YouTube, he does a great job and shows the stove in use with various fuel sources."

"Just received my stove. haven't used yet but seems to be in great shape. The only bad thing is a slight smell inside bottle but should be fine after cleaning. Only suggestion is go for little pricer shipping. Post smart sucks and took almost two weeks but still really happy. Will buy from again."

"I received these with high hopes. I ordered 3, one for me, one for my brother in law, and one spare. I received one that was near perfect, one usable, and one that looked like it had been through a trash compactor. I asked for a replacement and volunteered to sent the old one back, then said just let us send you a replacement. Received it, and it looked like it must have been a hand picked new model. Looking forward to using these on our next trip!"

"I order it with the cheapest delivery and it arrived on time. It looked a little worn but if your expecting to use it and keep it in mint condition, this is not fot you. I cooked a can of soup in it and it was done in less than 5-minutes. It works great. It's a little hard to clean the inside of the stove but whats the use. As long as you get moved if the ash and grim out it's fine. It's like cleaning the inside of your B-B-Q grill. Who the hell does that. The cup cleans up nice and the bottle is very light but durable. Great for the lone hiker or bug out bag. I will order another for my son to use when we back pack together. 4 out of 5 bullets only because the inside of the stove is hard to scrub out."
4.0 5
"The one I got is in like new condition. The other has some issues, while it is in good condition the wire bales on it are seriously bent. I can fix it and it does not affect the use or performance of the stove. That's the only reason for the four bullet rating or else it would have been 5 bullets. Great product, by the way the bottle is not insulated or double walled as the site says. I expect to get many years of service out of them."
5.0 5
"I doubt mine had even been used. Virtually new. A real bargain for the price. I'll be putting the set to the test as soon as Fall gets here. It fits in the side pocket (with a little persuasion) on my day pack. I'm sure I will be using this set for years."
3.0 5
"I got one of these about a month ago, and I love it. I have used it three or four times, burning sticks and twigs, and I have melted a hole in the side of the stove. It really performs; just don\uFFFDt expect it to hold up for long. I would recommend if for its light weight, and the fact that you don't have to carry around fuel, just feed it sticks and twigs.I will order another to keep for power outages."
5.0 5
"Right off the bat I have to just say WOW. This thing is every bit as excellent as I imagined and it\uFFFDs also a bit bigger than I imagined. Mine came in nearly mint condition and clean. Out of the bag I fired it up with trioxide fuel bars and was able to boil a full cup of water to a rolling boil with 1 and a full bottle of water with 2 bars. I imagine a can of Sterno would be the most economical option for fuel but I get the trioxide bars at my local army navy for $.75 a box of 3 so I use them for now.Buy it you\uFFFDll love this thing more than you can imagine! In fact I will be order 2 or 3 more just to have as they won\uFFFDt be around forever!!!"
3.0 5
"Mine came with character...it is functional but isn't pretty. I like the set and with a little TLC, it'll be everything I need it to be. I'm somewhat weary about purchasing surplus (as this is definately not grade I condition). Customer service at CTD is top notch, and I'm not crying about a $10 that works."

"This looks to be a great emergency stove. It came looking brand new. Sturdy construction. I can't wait to try it out."

"Update to an earlier review. These work GREAT with the pepsi can stoves."

"I was wary of ordering this item due to its used condition. However, after reading so many reviews claiming that their items came looking as good as new I was encouraged and placed my order. Just my luck, I got one looking like it had been through a war! :) dents, scrapes, scuffs, etc. I mean, it'll probably work, but realize that you are getting a USED item, and don't expect \"looks like new!\" I was so discouraged by what I received that I went to amazon.com and ordered a new stove."
5.0 5
"I got five of these, for our vehicle survival kits and for camping. Based on some of the other reviews I was excepting a mixed bag, but all five of mine were brand new, unissued condition. The whole kit nests, and takes up as much room as a 1 liter soda bottle. The aluminum bottle is perfect for boiling suspect water, the cup has very nice handles, and the base/stove is very well thought out, I used trioxane bars, wood chips/twigs and both worked great. Typical Swiss surplus, very, very good!"
4.0 5
"I ordered two; one was perfect and unused. The other was bent and the bottle had a pin-hole. Being aluminium, the stove was easy to bend back into shape, and I was able to find a slightly smaller aluminium bottle at the local dollar store that fits nicely into the kit. I actually like the dollar store bottle better because it has a threaded plastic lid instead of the cork. Quickly brings a cup of water to a boil using only twigs and grass."
5.0 5
"Bought 10 of these. Everyone new showing no signs of use or even storage wear. I've used these before and the Swiss got it right again. Light small and foolproof. Only down side is drinking out of aluminum. S/S cup would be the way to go, that can be fixed ( read other reviews ). Great little kit. Get one!"
5.0 5
"The stove works great and it arrived in brand new condition. After reading some of the other reviews I shopped at a few other sites first. Most of the others cost more and were also used. My good experiences with CTD gave me the courage to gamble again. I won! Thanks CTD."

"Great piece of gear. Fits perfectly with MOLLE-012."

"I love this stove. It works amazingly be it in a building or outdoors. The cork does make water taste slightly woody but its a minor detail that can be aired out."
1.0 5
"The first time I used the Swiss Ranger Volcano I created a fire out of twigs and bark on the inside of it. The fire ended up burning a half dollar sized whole right through the side of the unit. I knew this was an inexpensive item, I just did not think that a product which carries the Swiss name would be such a cheap piece of garbage."
2.0 5
"Arrived in good time and in fairly new condition. Only problem was that the crammed packing caused a dent that, before reshaping, kept the water bottle from coming out. Thought this was CTDs fault for a sec, and then on the first trip out realized it was probably inevitable due to how easily dented thin aluminum is. Many more dents followed. Overall, just not to happy with the system. It works, it just takes a long time, isn't durable, and takes up a lot of space."
5.0 5
"Recieved 2 stoves in 5 days in brand new condition. I do like the cork bottle cap works as a pressure cooker, and will release pressure if leftunattended may blow off. Attach para cord to cork and tie around bottle neck. Aluminum melts at 1400 degrees so don't put in the fire or create to large of a fire inside. It will melt. The reason I like the cork it floats, if lost all you have to do is shove a tree branch in it No plastic threaded cap to worry about. Remember if you cork the bottle it will heat faster."
5.0 5
"Will this cook a four course meal and wash itself? No. It does, however, boil water quickly and efficiently, using any fuel dry enough to burn. The canteen cup, while small, will quickly heat an MRE/canned food. The Swiss really nailed it here. I received mine in a matter of days, and it was brand new. I've cooked MREs, coffee, stew, ramen etc. If you have never used this stove before, I have 2 suggestions: 1.)Rub liquid dish detergent onto the bottle and let it dry before cooking; when soot builds up on it, it will wipe right off. 2.) Don't bother trying to heat water using just Trioxane or Wetfire; they're great as firestarters, but you're better off using them to ignite other combustibles and get a real fire going."

"I give this stove 5 bullets , took it hunting last Nov. In northern PA. and while my brother had cold sandwich I had hot soup. I bet next year he'll use my other one. Great Swiss stove, get 1 or 2 or 3 ."

"Ordered one and I did not get a cork for the bottle. Plus the cup is dented. I did manage to bang out the dent..."

"Received the Volcano Stove yesterday. It looks as if it has never been issued. I did cut out a piece of copper to fit inside the bottom of the stove to prevent premature burn out. I think this will extend the life of the stove.I also have a Kelly Kettle but the volcano stove is much more portable and a better choice for backpacking, hiking or a B.O.B. . The Kettle is probably better suited for a base camp."

"Got my stove just recently, first impressions were good. Everything is definitely pre-loved but otherwise completely functional, there are a few minor dings on the cup, but for the price it's not a big deal. I've noticed that the edges around the bit where you feed your fuel in are a bit sharp, sanding them briefly takes the edge off. If not for the few minor complaints, it definitely works as described and intended. Four Bullets."

"Arrived with 3-4 days, (as usual). No dent, light soot on outside of bottle. It said it was surplus so I expected something like that. Seems real sturdy. Cooked the ubiquitous ramen noodles and had some hot tea. Great product. I am sure the cup alone would have cost $20 in some specialty shop. If the wood at your campsite is wet, use the stove as a windscreen for a small alcohol stove."

"This product is definatly as advertised. I eliminated the wood taste from the boiling water by wrapping the cork with aluminum foil.Simple sollutions are usually the best ones.I can't believe how light the entire unit is!!!!!!"

"I love this thing. Perfect size for making a cup of the private reserve coffee before the rest of the gang wakes up. With the triflouxane tablets I can reconstitute an instant indian meal, but boiling water in the thing isn't really practical. For what it is though, it is a near perfect a personal cooking solution. I use it ever time I go camping and on half of my hikes. The aluminum transfers heat pretty quickly, so watch your lips!"

"Just received the Volcano Stove yesterday, had to try it out last night. Great product for the money. MRE was hot and tasty."

"This stove kit is another great product from the Swiss. Simple, inexpensive and effective. Use it for backpacking trips with available dry wood twigs, leaves or esbit cubes. Note that although the product is new (not used), it comes with some shelf wear marks. This is visible on the bottle when you view the enlarged image. Also on the inside of the mug. Mine also had some kinks on the mug on the bottom rim. But for the price this is no big deal. Five stars, for a great product."

"I will start by saying this is just what it says and does what it says. Everything came intact and with an Esbit cube. I had water boiling in the bottle within 10 min (air temp was 90 degrees). My main problem with this is the bulk it takes up vs. an Esbit stove and canteen cup. If you have the room this will work, but for a backpack I would take something smaller. I realize this unit includes a water bottle, but I don't trust a cork stopper for something as valuable as my water. This was also the roughest grade one item I have gotten yet from CTD. Those who got an unissued set scored big. I ordered two because they are so cheap and both of mine had a lot of wear. All that said, if you have the money to spend and want a working toy, buy it. Mine now lives in the car for emergency coffee on my fishing trips."

"Excellent deal. Mine arrived sealed in plastic, looks new. My nephew will love this as a gift, thanks."

"This heats up water to a boil in about 4-5 minutes with only a couple of coals from an established fire. Very durable. I wish it had a screw-on lid, but I guess it may be for safety if you boiled water with a lid screwed on it would probably explode hot water all over."

"Got my stove awhile ago. Beautiful, brand new. Tried it out the other night with some kerosene tabs. Try not to use anything that produces smoke if possible- it is a pain to clean. You won't want to put it back in your new Kelty pack when your done using it (and I back pack hard and get stuff dirty). I did take advice from one comment to use the soap on the surfaces of the unit, will see how it does cleaning up next time. Unit is awesome! Boiled the whole canteen of water in ten minutes and I was being lazy letting the fire go out here and there. Love the cork, the natural pores seep and let you know when your water is boiling and it hasn't blown yet. Heats fast and stays hot! I've scalded my lip a few times thinking it was cool after some time, intense. With a little cleaning and care and proper use one should be all you need for a long time."

"I guess the first thing is the lightweight part cannot beat that for all that you get.Does have some wear marks but nothing bad.Rather Bulky just be aware it does take up space. I do give credit to the Swiss for getting things right."

"This is a absolute must-- you need to also buy the container to slip this stove into as you can then attach it to the outside of your backpack---This is the coolest thing yet and it does work all you need is scrap wood--- well worth the price---"

"Arrived in \"brand new\" condition and on time. It's a great little stove and you will never be out of fuel. Awesome buy. This was my first purchase from CTD and I can see it won't be my last."

"Okay, first the Pros: Lite weight, well finished, no burrs, nice design, the flask slips down inside the unit and rests on a wire stopper to put it close to the flames to boil water. The cup can also be used as a cook pot. Sold elsewhere here are gel pot mini cookers and those cans of fuel slip neatly in to this unit for a quick clean start. The whole unit nests together without blue prints.Cons: First, the unit was new and unused, but the cork was covered with a thin green mold, not sure I can clean it up, I'm going to soak it in clorox and see if it cleans up, or I'll have to buy a new cork. The Cork as a stopper for boiling is good as it will release steam while holding in the surface heat while boiling, but the cork is unsuitable for transporting liquids, say like a thermos of coffee to the blind. That is a major oversight in design, it really needed a threaded stopper as well. Then the unit is like a stove pipe and the bottom has no horizontal base supports to prevent tipping. This will need to be braced with stones in the field if a small skillet or other small pot was to be heated that was larger than the top. NOTE TO FILE: While CTD has recommended their water bottle Molle Water bottle unit be purchased as a carry pouch for this rig, NADA. I bit and have to report being a misled, forget it as a pouch for this unit. CTD never checked the actual size. The pouch is three inches too short. Yes, the kit will slip in with some effort, but is just too tall for a zip up neat job. If the cup is carried elsewhere as well as the cork, it can work, but .... But what's good is two of these sterno cans will fit in the side pouch, along with your magnesium fire starter, fire tender, etc.. Had the pouch fit well it would be a tremendous outfit, and frankly all you'd need for a over night trek, or long stay in a blind. For hunters who are packing everything all the time, this kit is not stealth, when staked for travel it rattles like a full kitchen of pots. Bu...."

"got it on time, brand new. took about 10 minutes to boil ramen noodles, but my wood was damp. I highly recommend one of these for everyone. Going camping with me real soon."

"I bought one of these for my backpacking kit and after my wife saw it and got to try it out she I had to buy another one. These sets are great backpack rigs, if a bit noisy (when strapped to the outside of your pack. With two hexamine tablets I was able to boil ramen in the bottle and still had enough heat to make a warm cup of coffee. I love that you can use any heat source for these and my only compliant is the corked bottle is not great for transporting liquids, although a trial with a rubber band and a baggie pull tight over the opening showed promise. The cork were like new and all other components in great shape. Highly recommended for any outdoors or emergency kit."

"This is a no brainer at $10. I'm building a small fresh water distilling head for the cork topped bottle out of 1 1/2\" copper pipe fittings. I will post pics or a link to them when finished. Thanks again CTD!"

"I got two of these for my husband and me to use in an emergency while trail riding on our horses. I got the recommended holder as well. It is, as one reviewer mentioned, tight to fit in, but after a few times of getting it in and out, it loosens up fine. I heated some water in it. I am not a very good outdoors person, but got it to boil in less than 15 minutes. It took my husband 5, so if you know what you are doing, it works better! I used twigs and not a fire tablet, although I have them for emergency use. I definitely had to use gloves to handle the kettle part after heating it, because it got very hot. I recommend this to anyone who needs such a device. There are other devices such as this, and they are a lot more expensive; maybe better, but not cheaper."

"Very neat stove to have, I recommend it to anyone even thinking about getting one for $10. It does fit perfectly in the modgear pouch too, you just have to have it placed in it the right position so the pouch lid fits over it unobstructed. Also like mcbeast noted the design lends itself well to making a still out of it which is why I ordered a second one to monkey with & make a good emergency still. I wouldn't transport liquids in the bottle because of the cork, but if need be you can always replace it with a screw top bottle."

"I ordered 2. One was brand new perfect and the other was in poor condition but totally useable. Tested it out with an esbit cube. Awesome- must get more."

"Gotta love the Swiss! Simple, common-sense design, which is light weight for easy backpacking or for a BOB. I've read many of the other comments and took my own experience and added it to the mix. My results are excellent! My stove set arrived brand new and DOES fit nicely in the recommended MOLLE bag. It is snug at first, but as you use it, it breaks in perfectly! I will advise others this is NOT a base camp stove. If you need one of those, I'd recommend the Kelly Kettle. For what this set is made for, I have no complaints. Thanks again, CTD!"

"Arrived in perfect shape. Clean with just a slight stale smell in the bottle, no worries. It's light and it's creatively made with the wires and the cup. Something I didn't understand before I got it was that you can put the cup into the top of the stove and heat a cup's worth of soup or whatever, but you can also put the bottle/flask into the stove for heating. The wire handle kind of folds over and a little tab pokes through and holds up the bottle over the flame. So you can cook in the bottle or in the cup. Cool."

"I bought one of these last year. It came brand new, obviously never issued. In my backyard test run I boiled water in about 8 minutes using sticks. The next time I used it was camping on top of Mt. Kilington. It is difficult to keep going in windy conditions. If you are going to rely on this for backpacking you should practice with it before heading out. I wrapped my stove in a plastic bag, to keep the soot off my pack, and carried it in one of the side water bottle pouches. I had no problems with the clanking noises other people have mentioned."

"Lightweight, packs up easy, and liquids can be heated with a variety of different fuels. For $10 this belongs in your kit! I'm taking it along on my next hiking trip and think it will be a great companion for our camp stove, and a perfect backup if we run out of fuel. Some of the reviewers seemed to misunderstand the purpose of this product, expecting to transport hot liquids under cork, or even using the corked bottle as regular water bottle is silly. This is for heating up liquids, soups and whatnot, in a pinch. I wouldn't expect the pot I keep spaghetti in to double as a water bottle... Anyway, great product, if it wasn't on back order right now, I'd order another today."

"This is a great little kit. As previous reviews mentioned, it does belong in one of your kits. I don't carry the bottle. The cork is too much of a spill/sanitary issue. Some folks just replace the bottle in the kit with a store bought aluminum bottle. I use the inside of the stove to carry my culinary kit, which is in a nylon bag. I cut the bottom out of my stove so I can use my Esbit Spirit Trangia clone alcohol stove, which works great. Used a Dremel tool; took about 30 min by hand. Easy to place in and remove the stove and I'm able to use the snuffer lid/burner adjustment lid with ease. Boils 1 cup of water in about 3.5 min. Going to buy another when CTD gets them back in stock. Good luck and happy trails."

"I ordered one set and just ordered a second one. The first one is great. I guess I got lucky and received a very clean one. It was very clean and kind of looks like aluminum that was media blasted. For this price you get a bottle w/cork, a cup w/handles and a functional stove that will accomodate either. It's a bargain, rather than just repeat the praise of others, just look on youtube for video reviews by those who have them. Outstanding bargain and a very practical piece of kit. Ihope this one will be as nice and clean as the first one I got. I already had a spare condor H2O bottle pouch for the first one, but I ordered the suggested modgear bottle carrier in od. CTD rocks. If you're on a budget like i am, it's difficult to beat this site for practical rugged gear, surplus or new."
