"This sucker throws a blinding stream of sparks at any altitude, even when it's wet. This shower of sparks is powerful enough to ignite a cigarette without having to take a drag. The blast match is more effective at burning things than any disposable or 'high performance' lighter- it's more like a MAP gas torch! Yet this fits in your pocket, is unaffected by environmental extremes, and it seems like it would take a lifetime to wear out. It does take a little more dexterity to operate than I had thought. The operator has to apply pressure to a plastic button which holds the steel when operating the spring-loaded plunger. I highly recommend it. I remember a 4x4 camping trip in the rockies when it hit 40 below. Our zippos, BICS, camp stoves, and trucks were all rendered useless. Only by using the blast match to light some stoves, and start a few fires were we able to warm up, make breakfast, and get the trucks to turn over. It's pricey but it is the best fire starting tool this pyro has ever seen!!!!"

"Emits many high temperature sparks; small, compact size; works in all conditions(wet or dry); large flint bar. Camping and surviving are just a few things you can do with this work of engineering."

"The kids and I have been trying to learn some survival skills in the backyard. We've tried all kinds of firestarting methods. Suffice it to say, we aren't too good at most of them. But this thing works! Really! One swipe, and the tinder was in flames. I tried it again, and it worked again! We started several fires with it. I came back to order another one so we can play with one, and still have a good one in the survival pack that we're putting together. This is MUCH better than any other firesteel we've tried."

"Look, if you're cold and hypothermic, shivering, maybe you have an injured arm or hand... This is a fire starter you can use with only one hand! It can literally save your life!No need to hold the fire steel in one hand and strike the rod with steel using the other hand. Just plunge the spring loaded fire steel against a firm surface and you're in business. If you're fighting hypothermia, you must get a fire going before confusion or loss of motor function strikes or you're done for. The Blastmatch Fire Starter is that tool!I carry at least three totally different methods of starting a fire, and the Blastmatch is always one of those methods. It's always with me."

"Easy to use, you can use it 1 handed. All you have to do is scrape the black off the flint/steel striker and its ready. It puts out some serious sparks, it lights just about anything first strike. So powerful it nearly light up a cotton ball that i got soaked with water to test it out how wet it can be. As long as it is 'semi dry' it will probably light up first time or within a few. When in use the striker will hardly show ware. Rest assured that this will always be ready when you are."

"I love this thing. It is so easy to use. Unlike most steel and flint fire staters this thing is a one peace deal. You don't have to keep up with piece of steel and a piece of flint it's all togher. And unlike other fire starters it like push button, you push down this small piece of raised plastic with steel attached to the bottom which connects with the flint and push the flint rod down and u got sparks. The flint rod is placed on a spring so it can go down and cause sparks when the steel is pressed down."

"I've used several different flint'n'steel firestarters - this is THE BEST! I normally like to carry 2 or 3 different firestarters, just in case one doesn't work... forget the rest. This is now my first choice for starting a fire."

"I have to add to the extolations of the rest. I have about 10-12 of the other 'firesteel' style firestarter which work incredibly well, but this one is one handed. I haven't had a chance to play with this over time (it does seem a bit flimsy) but in some test strikes, it works incredibly well. I will also carry a backup firesteel until I can totally trust this, but it seems great."

"I didn't know how much fun this item would be! When it arrived I couldn't wait to try it out and I grabbed my nine year old son to see if he could start a fire with it. He had trouble getting the pressure right but it didn't take but a couple minutes for him to have a small pile of paper and sticks on fire. It's incredibly easy to use and very effective. We also ordered the WetFire fire starting tinder and it made the job just that much easier. I'm sorry I didn't order two or more of these, one for the camping kit and one for the survival kit."

"I had to use my knife to create the spark against the flint. The striker only lasted a few strikes."

"I am used to flint and a knife to start fires. This device has saved me a lot of time already. I like how the scraper automatically rotates around the flint rod giving the flint even wear. Very smart design!"

"When I opened the package my first impression was \" wow I bought a rickety piece of junk\", but when I actually tried it my view was instantly changed to maybe I should go outside lol . It was by far the best flint I have ever encountered. After I almost burned the house down I put it in my survival bag where it belongs. I am going to buy 2 more... another for the bag and one to play with!"

"I bought this after seeing a video featuring it on YouTube. While the flipping cover can be a little annoying, this will light your kindling in seconds. Tried it with flat cotton pads and they flared up after one shower of sparks. Definitely recommend for the outdoors enthusiast and have one handy in your bug-out bag. Put this on your Survival-list!"

"Great tool to start a quick fire. My only concern is that I can't be too rough with it, because the flint bar will break off. Other than that...it works!"

"These work well. Hot sparks. Takes a couple of strikes to get them going but once the outer surface is free of water hinders them they work great. Nice and small for carrying."

"Ordered this item for the go-bag and received it in 2 days. After playing with it for a few minutes, now ordering another for my camp bag. This is by far the easiest firestarter I have ever used, and I have the scorched kitchen table to prove it. With a couple strikes the box that it was shipped in was aflame. This thing burns HOT, and is easy enough to use with one hand while holding a handful of tinder in the other. It won't replace my magnesium striker just yet, but it will certainly make a ready and dependable edition to any survival or camping kit."

"My son's a Cub Scout, and after working with flint and steel, this is Nirvana. Good sized sparks every time. You provide the kindling, The Blast Match will get it going. I would definitely recommend trying it out before you need to use it. There's a (shallow) learning curve. However, once you use it once or twice, it's peace of mind in your survival kit."

"I saw this fire starter a while ago and decided even though it was priced pretty high, I would give it a try, which I shouldn't have. I only messed with it a short time, and all seemed real good to me. A week ago, I loaned it to my son-in-law to use for one night and I asked him how he liked it. I was expecting him to really rave about how well it worked, but no. He just said he couldn't get it to work, and he handed it back to me. It was broken somehow, I guess. It won't spark at all. I don't know how he tried to use it, but it is broken, the very first time it was actually needed."

"Saw this on YouTube first. So I went looking for it on CTD. When I read some bad reviews, I was tentative on making an investment. But, I went ahead anyway, since I was impressed with the YouTube presentation. Well, they work like a charm!!! No problem when I used it. I'm not entirely sure why others had such a bad time with this product, but no problem here. Highly recommended. P.S. I bought two units, tested both, and both passed with no problem."

"Cheapest thing I've ever bought. After going through the process of the directions making sure the black oxide was removed to expose the flint, after about 50 attempts not 1 single spark. Holding down the striker with even minimal pressure, the spring is so weak that the \"spring-loaded\" flint stick won't even budge and the directions say hold with \"medium\" pressure. So after about 50 attempts I gave up. This cheap piece of junk is over priced at $1.00"

"Great tool. Easy to use, sparks come off so hot it could practically set water on fire. Love it"
