Founded in 1880, Tula Cartridge Works is one of the most significant producers of small-arms ammunition in the world. Over the past several years the factory launched production of a wide variety of commercial products for training, self-defense, and hunting. Such ammunition is marketed Worldwide under the trademark TULAMMO.
The cartridge .223 REM (5.56X45) is used for sporting and hunting shooting through bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles and carbines. The cartridge keeps its qualities under various climatic and weather conditions independent of the season and at a temperature from 20 to + 50 C.

TulAmmo is converting from a Bimetal Jacketed projectile to a Zinc Coated projectile. Zinc coating is a chemical method of surface treatment (galvanizing) which gives the bullet jacket a more uniform and consistent protective layer than that of machine-stamped bimetal bullet jackets. Thanks to this, cartridges with zinc-coated bullets provide up to 10-15% better shooting accuracy than cartridges with bimetal bullets.

Caliber: .223 Remington
Bullet Weight: 55 Grains
Bullet Type: Full Metal Jacket Projectile
Muzzle Velocity: 3241 FPS
Non-reloadable Steel Casing
Berdan Primed
Bimetal jacket will attract a magnet

"This ammo is garbage. It jammed up on my bushmaster ar15 and also my friends so it wasn't just my gun it jammed up on. The shell would get stuck in the chamber and not extract then we had to use cleaning rod to pop them out numerous times. We inspected the bullets and noticed some bullets had rough shells with some glue like gummy stuff stuck to them which probably made them get stuck.. You get what you pay for :("

"Shot 90 rounds no problem, went to shoot another 90 rounds, finished out two mags and then three failures to extract. It seems once the barrel gets heated up, even just a little bit, this ammo craps out. I bought the 500 round case and was having fun at first but then it seemed like ever five rounds, there was a failure to extract. This is a big issue because it takes a cleaning rod to remove the spent case. I also had a couple with bad primers. Will not buy again."

"The first 30 round mag went through just fine. The first round from the second mag got jammed pretty bad. I couldn't get the round out so I took it to the local gunsmith. After I told him what happened he automatically knew I used steel cased rounds. He explained to me about a chemical on the rounds causes the shells to get stuck after the gun heats up. I took my gun back to the range after this and kept my rate fo fire down and had no further problems. All in all 500 rounds for 100 bucks isn't such a bad deal, but some times you get what you pay for. Not too sure if I'll buy again, have to see how the rest shoot......"

"I bought 500 round of this ammo from CTD and have put about 100 downrange already using my 16\" M4A3 and USGI 30 round mags, with no problems at all. I've had no problems whatsoever. People can say what they want, but I'm here to say there is nothing wrong with this ammo. Those that are experiencing feed issues need to look into their own equipment. Shipping was amazing, too. I ordered it on 2/2/12, and it was on my porch at around 2pm on 2/4/12. You can't beat that!"

"I ordered this on a sunday, and received it on tuesday!! Just took it to the range today, all I can say is awesome, so far 300 rounds and only 1 fail to fire, 500 rounds for 100 bucks cant complain about that, I was shooting a RRA PDS, the gun handled the ammo perfectly. Will buy again soon!"

"I fired all 500 rounds through my M&P 15 sport, with the 100rd beta mag, and the bump fire stock, and it all worked flawlessly. No missfeeds, no missfires. Can't beat the price. I've checked EVERYWHERE. I will buy a lot more of this ammo, IF I can get over being mad about the CTD's new shipping prices."

"Does not like my Colt Sporter match Hbar.Did not want to work good at all. Tot a good 20 rounds through and after that went down hill fast.Even had some cook off rounds, don't know if it's the hbar holding heat or just the ammo, but won't buy again."

"Yes, I read the reviews, and this steel cased ammo has an alleged bad rep for FTF and FTE. I took a chance and ordered for a new SIG M400. The only bad thing I have to say is that if you remove a mag with rounds remaining, the one in the pipe gets stuck, causing one hell of a fight with the charging handle to eject the remaining round. If you fir it off, it pulls out a bit easier. All in all, I am satisfied. Took only 12 rounds to zero from BSZ, and it is GTG after that. Will buy again when the price drops back into the double digits!"

"Shot 400 of these through my Rock River AR15. It's a little dirty but if you take care of your rifle as you should, it's not a problem. Will be back for more of these commie rounds. NRA ISRA Member"

"I bought one thousand rounds of this for a patrol rifle class. I was a little concerned that it might cause problems during the 800 round course. But I am very pleased to say that it performed flawlessly. I did not have one jam or misfire during the five days of shooting. I cleaned my AR on a daily basis, just to make sure, but I highly recommend this ammo if you're looking for inexpensive stuff that will perform. I just ordered another 500 for storage."

"If you buy these for use in an AR-15, you will likely experience a few light primer strikes. Great ammo. People whine too much about dirtiness. Try shooting like they did 150 years ago. Overall great ammo for a great price. Hard to beat it."

"If you google \"steel cased ammo\" you will find people praising it and people hating it. Whether this stuff will work well for you depends on your upper reciever. A friend of mine can't run 2 rounds through his without having issues, but I have fired 700 rounds of Tula through my delton upper and have never had a hiccup. A little dirty, but you should be cleaning your weapon after every shoot anyway! Buy a couple of boxes and run it through your ar. If no problems then buy with confidence."

"Bought the 500 round package to get some cheap range rounds. Out of 40 rounds, all but one failed to eject. Never had a problem with any other ammo. TulAmmo won't eject from my M4 Carbine."

"So far so good, I bought this ammo for Plinking around and it works great. I shot it through my dpms and my father in laws m4 and it fed and ejected great. Can't beat it for the price! I intend on buying more when I can."

"I just finished firing the 500 rounds and had no failures to feed, failures to fire, or failures to eject. Every round ran perfectly through my Bushmaster, even after four 30 round mags as fast as I could pull the trigger. Thank you, CTD."

"This ammunition is great for practice and plinking. All 500 rounds cycled perfectly in my Bushmaster XM-15-E2S as well as my comrade's Ruger Mini-14. Zero failures of any degree! As previously noted by several other reviewers, these rounds are not the cleanest. I don't really mind, as I always rigorously clean my rifle after a day of sending lead down range. For its price, I have yet to see a more value based round for practice and plinking."
– JGhaffoor

"Sticky when hot! Failure to extract. Not acceptable with a new, clean rifle, and after only 150 rounds or so, fired over about 45 mins. And I was alternating between brass 5.56 and these, as well as shooting a pistol in between mags, trying to let it cool. Probably won't buy these again."

"I don't have any issues with this ammo in my Bushmaster XM-15. I've shot thousands of rounds of the stuff, and have only had one single failure. This stuff is actually quite accurate in my experience, too. Contrary to what some try to say, this ammunition does not harm your rifle. The steel is mild and similar in softness to yellow brass. If your firearm shoots it, save your money and shoot this stuff when plinking/target shooting. The savings is well worth it."

"This ammo failed to eject the empty shells after every single shot. Did not work once. Tried different ammo and my Stag arms AR-15 functioned flawlessly. Will not buy again. 7.62x39mm version is great for my SKS. .223 not so good for my AR."

"I was a little hesitant running steel case ammo through my AR-15 after reading all the good and bad reviews. I decided to buy some and try it out. I was impressed. Not one misfire, jam, or misfeed. Excellent ammo for the price, as long as you keep your gun clean. And as always, fast shipping from CTD!"

"This ammunition works for me. I shoot a 1987 Mini-14 Model 185, which shoots everything you can put in it. This ammunition fires every time, ejects every time. At 50 yards, it gets 3\" groups and 5\" groups at 100 yards. Not bad for the price. 30 round mags and 20 round mags and it works flawlessly. Never jammed. I would recommend it to a friend. Cheaper than name brands and just as good."

"Best ammo you could ever buy for this price. Only problems are: A. It's not American made; and B. You can't reload, as they are steel casings and not brass. But, you can buy all day long for these prices. Kudos to Russia!"

"All I can say is please don't buy it so I can continue to get it at such a low cost! Not once did my Bushmaster reject, sputter, or complain about this ammo. And to those of you who complain about cleaning your gun: shame on you! That's one of the most important parts of gun ownership and should be done after every day of shooting."

"I put through about 350 rounds and I can honestly say this TulAmmo is junk. Spend the extra cash and get functioning ammo. This stuff is CRAP."

"The steel cased stuff isn't the best, I think we all know that. This is a little dirtier. Once in a while, I got double feeds from the bullet jamming. My AR doesn't like the steel cased ammo. It still shoots it, but it doesn't like it. I would buy this stuff on a seriously tight budget. If you can afford to get better ammo, get better ammo."

"First, I would buy this again. However, make sure you bring an extra cleaning rod and some type of CLP to the range with you. My Rock River Operator has no issues with LC or \"good\" ammo, but has issues with TulAmmo. It will raise your skill level in dealing with FTFs and FTEs. Lastly, I do not agree with those who feel there is little need to clean your weapon. Maybe an AK can get away with \"less\" cleaning, but very few others can. Extra lube will help at the range with this ammo but you must invest the time to clean your weapon, as you know you should."

"Unfortunately, I've been having FTEs and FTLs with these rounds. It's unfortunate because I stocked up with 5K rounds of this. I have stock Colt AR-15s and keep them clean and adjusted. Same gun, same mags, same day, this TulAmmo pretty much fails every other round or so with FTEs/FTLs, whereas fresh brass, reload brass, or the old Bear lacquered steel fires full mags with zero FTEs or FTLs. Took a look at the spent cartridges. The case is nice and silky to the touch. The old Bear cases are lacquered steel and are also silky to the touch. The TulAmmo looks sort of like blued steel, with something I guess that is supposed to be lacquer (polymer), but not silky - more rough and grabby. Caveat emptor."

"This stuff shoots great through my Stag Arms and my Bushmaster. I've never had any FTF or FTE issues with this ammo. That said, this stuff is smoky as hell and you'd better clean your rifle after you get through shooting."
– Tactiguy

"The only problems I have seen is once in a while I will have a round without a primer. Other than that I clean and lube more frequently. i have constant 3 1/2 inch groupings @ 500 yards with an old Daewoo DR200 and smaller groupings with a LMT AR-15, but there is the occational stray. And when you are thrugh shooting, a good once over of the ground with a fairly good magnet is a fast cleanup. Great for plinking and friendly competitions. I will buy as long as it stays cheap."

"Casing expands and gets stuck in chamber. Jammed both my S&W and LMT after about 5 rounds each. Both weapons were immaculately cleaned prior to shooting. Be sure to bring a cleaning rod to punch out all the seized casings, or better yet don't even bother."

"I have put thousands of rounds of this stuff thru my DTI and have never had the a misfire or a round being jammed like other reviews I have read here. The only reason I don't give them a 5 rating is because they are a little smokier and dirtier than most American made ammo but for the price you can beat it, I can deal with an extra 15 minutes of cleaning. My DelTon eats this stuff up, I buy them every time I find them really cheap, especially for high volume shooting at the range, works great for me."

"This ammo is a great buy for the money. at 26 cents a round after delivery I couldn't be happier. Fired of a hundred rounds this weekend and compared groupings to the Remington fmj I have and there was no difference.I just think that some of the bad reviews came from people that do not like Russian ammo. Having an ak47 and an sks I am familiar with the ammo and it works great. I do not reload anyway so the steel casing doesn't matter to me!"

"I am giving a 4 bullet rating because in the past I have not had any problems with this ammo. Bought the 500 round pack and shot about 100 rounds with only 1 FTE, had to use a cleaning rod to clear the rifle. My bushmaster loves the stuff but does get extra dirty and requires more cleaning after shooting. Otherwise you get what you pay for and I'm going to keep buying."

"I wasn't sure about this ammo, but bought it anyways because the price. Yea it's a bit dirtier, but I've cycled over 500 rds with no hang ups whatsoever. For plinking or target stuff it's perfect. I was still easily able to hit Gatorade bottles at about 180 yds no problem!"

"One of the most critical things to understand BEFORE ordering this is that it is steel case, Eastern Bloc ammo. If your rifle cannot handle steel case, do NOT buy this. If you do not understand that Eastern Bloc ammo is dirty, do NOT buy this. All that said, in the right system and with the right shooter, this is a great, economical way to spend hours of enjoyable time at the range. I have had zero failures with this ammo and cannot wait until it comes back around at this price."

"This ammo is great for a cheap shooter like me. I don't want to go to the range and spend a buck every time I pull the trigger. Sure, you have to do a little extra cleaning after shooting these rounds, but that just makes for more quality time with your gun! I have never had any problems like others state. Fires every time, ejects every time, and puts a smile on my face every time!"

"It functions reliably in my Buschmaster AR15. However, I took the black coating off my m4 feed ramps, and polished it to a mirror finish. Also for good measure I polished the chamber mouth. I do this to any and every firearm that I own or purchase, because I have found it to make an exponential difference in reliability. The accuracy of this ammo is decent too. I can make quarter sized groups at 100 yards using a 9x scope. Sometimes you get flyers, but that is with any ammunition."
