"Installation requires permanent alteration to the rifle, you have to file down the cover retaining pin to remove it. The mount does not replace the receiver cover as advertised by the manufacturer, it covers the cover. The instructions are difficult to understand for a novice like me. It doesn't seem to have come with all the parts on the instructions list. It does seem well made, but I didn't even attempt to install it because I want to be able to return my rifle to original condition."

"Item is not as stated in catalog. It would require major changes to weapon."

"You have to permanetly alter your rifle by removing the retaing pin, which I was unwilling to do and returned the item for trade, which went smooth as silk. I've since found a replace pin for about $5.00 which would have allowed me to install this mount and be able to have the orginal installed with the new $5 pin. Thanks for everyhing, CTD!"

"I was also disappointed that it was so difficult to install. To the gentleman who mentioned that there was a $5.00 replacement pin. Where did you find this?"

"This item was difficult to install. Had to slowly file down edge of the cover in order to get it to fit properly. Novices: don't try this yourself. I had help from a friend who has many years of experience with firearms. Once done, however, it performs flawlessly. The original locking pin, as referenced in other reviews, must be replaced with the one provided. If you are intent on returning to original at some point in time, save it. Dave"

"Replacing the cover retaining pin on any model of SKS can cause serious malfunctions, including ejection of the cover. The process for removing the factory pin (without damaging it) is simple and the cover pin replacement provided with this part is inadequate to withstand repetitive shearing forces. Also untold by the manufacturer's instructions, the mount is designed to use adjustable depth screws to provide repeatable zero stability, which requires punching or drilling detents into the receiver wall. The factory retaining pin can be removed by heating the main pin with a pen torch or similar heating tool. It expands. The key-pin pulls right out when it's hot, and installs the same way."
