The M1928 is an updated version of the first M1910 Haversack, a pack that revolutionized the way gear was carried. Instead of carrying their load from a cartridge belt, the haversack allowed a soldier to carry his personal gear on his back. Suspenders integrated into the pack helped to support the soldier's belt.

To pack the haversack, it is laid flat on the ground and the straps removed to allow it to unfold completely. C-Rations, personal clothing and gear were placed on the haversack, and it was laced back up to secure the load, measures 15.5x10.5" when laced up.

The removable 8x6.5" meat can pouch was designed to carry a soldier's mess kit and eating utensils. The standard issue M1910 T-Handle shovel (MIL-1267, not included) can be secured underneath the meat can pouch. Using a pack carrier (also not included) it is possible to carry half a shelter, a bedroll, and additional clothing rolled up into a bundle that could be easily detached.

This modern version of the M1928 Haversack is a faithful reproduction marked 1942, and includes all straps and buckles as well as the meat can pouch.
